Wee Things on the Beach
Wee Things on the Beach is a Portobello-based arts trust. Our mission is to produce small scale works of art on and around the beach for the enjoyment of all.
To participate, you don't have to be a recognised artist and in fact recognised artists need not apply. And you wouldn't be interested anyway because there is no money to be made. No money, no creche, no free wine. And it's bring your own biscuits.
Still interested? Our first commission in the Pretend Porty Prom series requires you to make something interesting from found materials on the beach. Make it, photograph it and post it here.

Found art on Portobello Beach

Saw this last summer. Didn't put it there and I don't know how you define art but it put a smile on me.
I made this one though...

I call it Late Sparkler with Broken Fork. It's gone now.

Thanks Marya, Photobucket works a treat.

An excellent start for Wee Things on the Beach. We have our very own inflatable sculpture at no cost to the Scottish Arts Council and an original work. Do you have a larger copy of the second photo? I'm having a problem with perspective. Is it a household fork in the foreground, or something much larger that looks like a fork further away?
Stop Dilly Dallying
Forgot about this one....
<a href="http://s769.photobucket.com/albums/xx33 ... ydally.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i769.photobucket.com/albums/xx33 ... ydally.jpg" border="0" alt="Chalk,Portobello,Dilly,Dallying,Dilly Dallying,tears"></a>
The lines that become the letters run down from many teardrops. Text on the top (out of shot) said something like teardrop=1450 pupils at Portobello High School.
Date on my photo says 8th April 2010.
It was a powerful image. Can anyone shed any light on what it means? Thanks to whoever put it there.

New School Chalk of Shame.
Cheers Wangi, that'd make a lot of sense. That new school further up the road looks fantastic. Let's have one of those. Seems straight forward enough.wangi wrote:To complete the loop... I saw a few photos of that up on the wall of the Public Art House.
Anyway, I imagine it's a plea the get the finger out and build a bloody school which isn't a gulag...
Oh I do like to be beside the seaside

Somebody went to the trouble of standing all the bricks on the beach upright...
