Did you know that 270, almost half, of our 609 registered members have never made a single post? I'm not talking about lurkers here. These are people who went to the bother of filling in the registration form.
Why do you think that is, and what do you think we can do to encourage them to make their maiden speech?

This is a pet hate of mine. I don't understand why people join things (like these types of forums) and then contribute nothing! I've seen it on umpteen sites.
Of course, some admins like to have these numbers and quote them as members so they can boast about it. Others throw them out if they don't post a certain number of times in a given period.
I'm with the latter. If registered people don't make a post with 3 months, I think they they should be booted out. These are the also-rans who do nothing in the community either ... but spout off about what should be done when confronted by things they don't like. The non-activists.
Perhaps the only encouragement you should give is a final warning ... post or you're out!!
Not got much time for lurkers either. They treat the forum like a zoo for their convenience ... and enjoy it when an argument happens!

Anyone with a web server could, if they were interested, track exactly how many distinct IP addresses have viewed stuff here, right down to an individual post, just by putting an image they host in that post. The web logs for the server will then give you detailed stats.

I was nervous to begin with but it's been a positive experience. I've learned about Valerian tea to help sleep, BBC listen again, had fun on place name quiz. Oh and made eldest Clanger speechless when I casually mentioned Board of Canada to her.
I've also learnt how to use quotes and post pictures. There's a practise thread with instructions. Most helpful
It can seem a bit like watching the big kids in the playground sometimes but on the whole it's good natures. Only once ever had someone rude enough to mention me in a thread then not answer my question when asked but that's his problem.
