A belated Merry Christmas everybody
. Had the longest long lie we've had on Xmas day for at least 20 years so didn't open anything until nearly lunchtime. Then had to do everything I had meant to do on Xmas Eve before I was waylaid by Mr Lizzie (
) in the Forresters and was then too tired and emotional to be trusted with. Also in no fit state to post by the time we got home at 10pm
. After all, you wouldn't want me post a lot of rubbish would you?
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!
On Christmas morning my Epykitten woke up with mild 'earache', by Boxing Day it was 'mild earache combined with moderate toothache'. By this morning the left side of his face looked not unlike that of the Elephant Man, hugely swollen, one eye almost shut. Being the motherly person wot I am (I AM.....sometimes) and the memory of last year's COC episode with the pneumonia still guilt tripping me (yes, the one where I told her to get back to work, it wasn't THAT bad
) I phoned NHS 24 - so called because it takes them that long to get back to you. To cut a long story short, we're just back from a two and a half hour visit to the Dental Hospital - handy that, coz they don't think it's a dental problem. Anyway, the wee soul is in his bed, lying on the flat side, sucking his Pencillin and hoping he'll be better for Hogmanay. After last Hogmanay I can't help thinking it's God getting him back

Hadn't thought of that Foxy! There's been quite a few kids off at my school with mumps too Epykat. If it is mumps he might be glad that it's his face that's swollen!foxy wrote:Have they actually said what's wrong with him Epykat...cos there's mumps going around ...my niece aged 14 has just recovered from it despite having been immunised.
Hope he gets well soon
(BTW I caught Chicken pox - which is also doing the rounds at the moment - one Christmas when I was 15. I only had a handful of spots but my forehead got really swollen with fluid which then settled down across my eyes so that I could hardly see. I spent Christmas day alone while everyone went off to my Gran's for dinner

Oh dear! Didn't mean to turn this into a discussion about me ecm honest!ecm wrote:That sounds awful, Marya. What a miserable Xmas that must have been.
Poor you!
And poor Epykitten. Hope he gets well soon.
Just that when Foxy mentioned mumps I remembered that I had what wasn't exactly a textbook reaction to a childhood illness, which sounds a bit like poor Epykitten at the moment

It's been some week! After being assured by the Dentist that the swelling would be down by Wednesday night - it most definitely wasn't. We were up at 5am (poor thing has had hardly any sleep since Xmas day and can't eat either). Tried stronger painkillers - no joy. This morning, early doors, I decided a trip to the Doctor was on the cards. Hooray! we were second in the door at 8.15
. Doc decided on mumps......but maybe glandular fever....... or perhaps a viral infection......or maybe a dental abscess. She came up with a great suggestion - try the dental hospital
. So, off we trotted again to the dental hospital where he was X-rayed (nothing) and given more antibiotics and (hooray!) some painkillers. His New Year is now totally down the tubes (
) because he can't drink a thing. God certainly works in mysterious ways
(and Marya your chickenpox sounded horrible!)

Beware the mysterious Portobello lurgy! Now day 5. All hope of a teenager's idea of a good Hogmanay up the spout. Much worse than man flu could ever be
. But things could be worse - he can do a great impersonation of the Godfather to keep himself amused
. Has been up and about today though and his Dad really cheered him up by buying him 6 cans of alcohol free lager - funnily enough, this was met with some disgust. He just didn't see the funny side........ party pooper

I may have fleetingly thought about it but he's off up the town - albeit with his six cans of Kaliberfoxy wrote:Poor wee Epykitten
So Epykat I'm sure you'll be staying home tonight to do your Florence Nightingale impersonation instead of galavanting off to a sausage sizzle
