I have just been thinking that we should court another on-line community that represents a real community. Much in the same way that in real life Jarnac is twinned with Dalkeith. What do you think?
We could scour the net for a suitable toon and set about twinning. It could be a laugh and may have some real benefits too. I'm thinking somewhere hot or exotic, english speaking or english as second language like ourselves. I would like a Spanish place or even English. What about you?
Lets get a plan.

Interesting idea!
Out of interest, can anyone (off the top of their head) remember who Musselburgh is twinned with in France? There's that sign as you come in Musselburgh Rd...

I think it might be Champigny-Sur-Marne.

All for it, and if we can get some town in the Caribbean to twin with I wouldn't mind being an ambassador

Well I used to work in Musselburgh and have passed the sign often enough but if you haven't seen it for a while you have a few doubts

Pomagne more like!
One of the aims of the Community Development Plan is to twin with other Portobellos. There is one in NZ I believe. I'm off to do some googling.

I've heard about one in London. Perhaps we could meet and discuss congestion charging.
Good idea, Porty!

I'm sure one of the five people in the tiny village will reply!
Will have to arrange a detour there later this year.

And he just has! The power of the world wide web never ceases to amaze me:
Hi Bob,
Shaun from Silverlea Cottages forwarded your email to me.
Portobello is a small community of about 300 on the Otago Peninsula in Dunedin, New Zealand. Dunedin is often referred to as the Edinburgh of the south and has a strong Scottish heritage. Hence our little village being called Portobello. There is a statue of Robbie Burns in the centre of Dunedin :
http://www.cityofdunedin.com/city/?page ... on_history.
I am chairperson of our local community organisation (Portobello Community Incorporated) and Shaun is also on the Committee. We have a wee website at:

Cheers

That place looks just about perfect. If only they had a forum - perhaps we can bring them up to speed?
Virtual Twinning - what a corker of an idea. Nice one Porty.

I see there are committee places vacant.
Do you think they would pay expenses for attendance?

El Presidente and Mr Lizzie are talking about paying them a visit in June when they are across for the Lions tour!

Why don't we ask Jamesie all about it seeing as how he's already visited?
Come to think of it, was there not an article about this in the Reporter a year or so ago?

I guess it is small but it does have an alluring name.
We could make it a baby twin and look for another.
The fact that we have a member that has been there makes it more tangible, don't you think?
Don't know what Bob said to the guy,not sure he got the idea.

Well there is also one in Panama...
Anyway, Portobello Township is now on my "to see" list in NZ.
And completely unrelated - do you know that one of the forum members has their full name printed on maps of the world. Weird stuff.

Having had a brief look. I think we will struggle to find a Twin with a Forum as busy as ours.
