The Longest Thread?

Post by Porty » 03 Mar 2009, 21:41

Beachbum has raised the question; what is the longest threas? I'm not trawling through them all but from memory the old school thread stretches to about 135 pages-its on about page 3 or 4 in Portobello Matters. Is there any longer ones?

Marya deleted a biggie by mistake once, can't recall what it was. Bob used to love those one or two word story threads and some of them got pretty big. Word association too. Then there was the infamous "counting" thread. So which is/was the biggest?

The Superstore thread was pretty big but the school thread must be easily the biggest and would be even bigger, were it not for the fact that it has been split into various sub-threads. And it still has several years to run! Then of course there is the small matter of the member who systematically deleted her entire contribution to the thread.

Could you remind us Marya? Twisted Evil
*cough* Bath Street.

Has Nelson Mandela not taught you two anything about the importance of forgiveness? You just can't let it lie, can you? It was all in the past and we need to move on now to build greater threads.

PS
Rumours that the developers of the Miami Vice apartments made a contribution to the Marya Pension fund are totally unfounded.

PPS
The pms that flew between Wangi and my good self that day were akin to that scene at the start of 'Two weddings and a funeral'......

There was also the "Big Brother" thread, when some of us moved into the penthouse suite at the bottom of Bath Street.

Did I delete it? You know, the funny thing is that I honestly can't recall how it all ended. It must have been a joint decision I assume. Were there lawyers involved?

That whole episode, from the original concept on was just surreal and now it seems like a strange, half-remembered dream.

It was certainly surreal. Ecm and I had some great times out on that balcony

It was deleted with the best of intentions ,I seem to remember, after it had inadvertently caused some hurt.

I'll briefly explain this one, although it is completely irrelevant to the thread. After using the gym the other day I went to the changing room and realised that my locker number was illegible on the wristband thingy. I remembered which row I had changed in but not the exact locker I had used. After trying two or three and finding that the key didn't fit it occurred to me that what I was doing didn't look quite right somehow, so I tracked down a lifeguard and presented her with the problem. It was at this point that I spotted Homer. Of course I knew I could rely on his discretion.

I recall we used to celebrate when we attained s milestone number of posts, like 2000 for the entire site. There was only one forum in those days. Its hard to believe it will be our 7 years anniversary this year. Poppys 5th anniversary was on Feb 8th- I meant to congratulate her. Dave connely and Bellybabe joined on the same day in 2003 - if my memory serves me correctly. Bob reinvented himself so did Dadaist. When I first joined I had a picture of Bob in my head - he had a beard and smoked a pipe! Marya and Bob surprised me at the Brighton bbq one day back in 2004. I didn't know either of them.

7 years?! I honestly can't believe it has been so long.

I reinvented myself too. I had trouble logging in under my first user name and ended up having to re-register under my present one.

Lets be clear - Marya told me all there was to know about accidental deletions ;)

I've just taken it from there.

Yep, I think mine was the best entrance  Pity Marya deleted it all ......

I still find it incredulous that Porty didn't have a clue who I was until I walked into the shop and put on my name sticker

Is that right? Think I joined in June 2004 how loing did it take to get to 5000. Our posting pace now is much less than the peak I think.

Edit- just noticed the joining date is on each and every post.

We hit 5000 on Fri 3 Sep 2004.

Can't believe you've just noticed the joining dates are displayed

Even without looking at the figures I'd say that posting rates are def down, but site traffic isn't as far as I'm aware.

My true joining date may be actually a bit earlier than the one stated, as I had to re-register. I should have taken my early technical problems as a sign of divine intervention!

I honestly can't remember when I joined as I had lurked since the start of POL. And no, Porty, I wasn't Gemini in my previous incarnation, though I seem to remember that is who you thought I was, when Bob and I surprised you in the Park. :? :dontknow:

Ah yes, the good old days of spladooshing......whatever happened to them? Never knowing when you might be spladooshed whilst innocently going about your day to day business. I vividly remember shouting "ZARGONIAN!" in a busy pub one night
