I was staggered this morning to see the PCC being ripped apart by learned individuals on the BBC's Breakfast News this morning. They were really giving them some stick. Oh how I laughed when I realised that PCC stood for Press Complaints Commission.

I think there would be a bigger turnout at Portobello CC meetings if anyone thought Hugh Grant might turn up

Are none of the community councillors going to come back with a list of good things they have done.....

I'm not saying PCC don't do good things, they do. For example, had they not intervened in the double Yellow lines in the conservation area debaucle, substantial parts of Portobello would be blighted. So its not all bad, by any means.

Are you talking about the double yellow lines at the Espy bit of Bath Street?

Not specifically but I guess they could have been involved.

I am referring to one winters night back In January of this year. The thirty or so people present at the CC meeting were alerted to what was obviously an underhanded plot by the City Council. Seems they were plotting to vandalise a conservation area by painting big, fat, double yellow lines. Some quick thinking and urgent action by PCC headed them off at the pass:

Diana Cairns reported that she had received notification of minor traffic restrictions to be made in Moira
Terrace and Duddingston. Stephen Hawkins pointed out that double yellow lines in conservation areas such
as Duddingston had to be narrower than normal.

* Action: Diana Cairns to remind City Council planners that double yellow lines must be
narrower than normal in conservation areas.

I bet the city planners just love getting wee reminders like that. If anyone's going along to PCC on Monday could you maybe get them to remind the Council to switch the street lights on and and collect the bins. Thanks muchly.

Anyhoo - how did the saga unfold:

286.5k Double yellow lines in conservation areas (285.12e). Diana Cairns had written to the City Council
as requested.

287.5d Double yellow lines in conservation areas (286.5k). John Stewart asked Diana Cairns to follow up the letter she had written to the City Council on this subject.

288.5f Double yellow lines in conservation areas (287.5d). Diana Cairns was still seeking an acknowledgement of the letter she had written to the City Council on this subject.

289.5f Double yellow lines in conservation areas (288.5f). Diana Cairns had made some progress with this and was awaiting further information.

290.5h Double yellow lines in conservation areas (289.5f). The City Council has agreed to liaise over future
recommendations.

God knows. Since when did Planners talk to Traffic Engineers anyhow?
That would be a first for a cooncil Planner to be concerned with double yellows....they're too busy 'working' their flexi

I'm having a weekend off traffic crap as its my birthday tomorrow.
