I'm still optimistic about England's chances to progress despite Owen's injury, though we certainly can't afford to lose anyone else.

Neville and Ferdinand will be back to shore up the back four and we have lots of talent in midfield. I thought that Hargreaves had his best ever game in an England shirt against Sweden and was a strong contender for man of the match, eclipsed only be a dazzling performance from Joe Cole.

Up front, Rooney just needs to avoid injury and cards. Gerrard, Lampard and Cole can all support him from midfield. Lennon is a potent weapon to bring on at some point and, if all else fails, we stick on Crouchie. Bring on Ecuador!

I can't see it happening, unless they are 2 or 3 up with 10 minutes to go. I would love to see him play some part though, and it does make you wonder why he bothered taking him if he has no intention of using him. I think Rooney as a lone striker with Gerrard just behind is our best option and Joe Cole and Lampard both love to get forward from midfield postions. For this to work though, Hargreaves needs to show the form he did against Sweden. And we need to remember how to defend from corners.

But if England win their next four games I can see them doing very well.

Listened to T&T match whilst Ing*rl*nd were playing the other night - the swedish thing brought back memories of my peak out of body experience as a footie watcher:- Genoa 1990, Scotland 2 Sweden 1 following the defeat against Costa Rica; drinking in bars with the shutters down as the Italians had banned alchohol on match days, and forming never lasting friendships with swedes that wore Norn Iron and Eire shirts and didn't know that they were two different teams...

oh, and that chap who danced on the tables all night after flying out from Glasgow at full walk-on fare 'cos he couldn't stand the thought of watching on telly (so he watched on the telly in the bar in Genoa) and allegedly didn't tell his wife that he wasn't in the Horseshoe bar but some other bar in Genoa until well after full time...

I was younger then.

Bring on the Euro qualifiers - France/Italy/Ukraine. Hmm, should see all of them off then...

Even if their defence had no holes in it, the Swiss clocked in a less than sterling performance - even their fans weren't very fondue of them. The commentators were going cuckoo by the end of the two hours - there were lots of people up far too chocolate. Unlike games which have gone before, there was no knife-cutting tension - leading to a neutral score. Hardly an embarrasment of Zuriches and no goalds in sight for 2 hours.
