Doctors are rubbish, I had a variant of the flu/virus which is going about and I was coughing so much and it was so painful I went to doc who told me to avoid cough medicine as it was no good and to make sure I had plenty of hot drinks and the cough/cold would go away by itself :o  .

Hope you feel better soon Porty :D
remember hot toddies are good for flu symptoms :D

True. I agree. But some of them aren't that great.

Dear Porty
All I had to begin with was a sore throat, so sore I couldn't talk much. felt grooty and a bit tight in the chest. Then the cough developed and went on and on. I probably had the viral infection then an opportunistic bacteria got in there.

Most viral infections are self limiting and there's not much you can do except keep drinking fluids, take something for the aches and temperature, then rest. Antibiotics are useless against viruses. Some people swear by vitamin C. Some by Echineacea. Some think gargling with a few drops of tea tree in warm water helps. Some think a hot curry helps.
Watch the amount of paracetamol taken though, very bad for the liver if too great an amount is consumed, so read the labels. ie dont take a lemsip then a couple of paracetamol tablets or night nurse

Hot toddy with lemon and honey and a good glug of whiskey is great, a few of those and you get too drunk to care about the virus

Sounds like you did the right thing going to the doc and he/she is investigating so is taking you seriously re the shortness of breath.

Thanks Dr Soup,

A fellow forum member suggested that as I have only had one glass of wine in 2007 it may be cold turkey that I'm going through. If so, I off it for good.

Porty xx

Oh dear. Is that what sobriety is like?

You could always try a nice, hot, plate of soup, of course. Lots of vitamins and veggies. Yum

Dr Soupy,

Serios question. I believe I have a respiratory virus. However, apart from an uncommon sbortness of breath, I have no other symptoms, no coughingm nuffink.

Can that be?

Porty
I've been watching a few back episodes of "Casualty" and my diagnosis is that you have the "very bad typing virus"...I'm sure a very dramatic chest drain, some keyboard lessons and a couple of shocks from a defibrillator would do the trick

I am recovering from the most evil and insidious variant of manflu on this earth: THAT WHICH HAS NO OUTWARD SYMPTOMS.

Despite the hell I have been living through for the past week - the aching bones, the incessant feeling of nausea, the weariness, the hot fuzzy dull constant throbbing hell that is the inside of my brain - because I cannot produce evidence of a croaky voice or suchlike, I have been pushed down the illness pecking order by Mrs H, who has had 'a cough and a sore throat' and have still had to carry out day-to-day household tasks with little to no sympathy whatsoever.

It's a good job men are able to bear pain without resorting to whinging.

I've just read Mr Rathbone's post, and now feel rather pathetic.

That sounds like the same as I have been suffering from but for me its at least two weeks and possibly 3. I'm worn out.

So when I met you the other day you appeared healthy and energetic. However, I feel like that today and I felt like it yesterday too but last night was horrendous. I was shaking and shivering like a junky.
