Geez, just found this thread.........making me feel homesick

"Scotland The What" were brilliant, I used to go and see them at the Kings when they performed there.
One of them, George Donald ,originally came from Huntly and my dad played with him in the "Huntly Harmonica Orchestra". My dad played the "mouthie" but there were lots of other instruments played as well. GD played the piano.

Suppose it depends if it's town or country Aberdeen. My landlady was from Old Meldrum and talking to us students she was comprehensible (although obviously from NE Scotland) but once she got on the phone to Old Meldrum... !!! Could not understand a word.

As a 15 year old I once spent a week with a friend and her relatives in Fraserburgh (or 'Broch', I should say). Her Uncle had just got himself a new set of false teeth and that, combined with his dialect, meant I hadn't a clue what he was saying. I just guessed 'yes' or 'no' and smiled a lot, much to their amusement.

I assume now the dust has settled, that the good Burghers of the Capital are now relieved that the smelly fly by night have hippy card will travel types have left, and that the damage and mayhem was minimal. The sooner these people wake up and realise that they are hypocrits the world will be a better place.

Don't worry, Hiboz, it's getting near to Fringe time.
A lot of those smelly, hippy types you speak of will be back here juggling, eating fire and generally making the streets look untidy for 3 weeks or so.

Though they'll be getting their photies taken by tourists this time round rather than the polis.

What hypocrits are we talking about here?

Having been on the MPH march, I saw no signs of damage or mayhem.

Therefore, I assume the

hypocrits you are refering to are the G8 leaders.

I most certainly do, and in the fullness of time you and I can go through each and every one of those socialist principles in as much depth as you like.

As an average worker and union member I'm not sure where you arrive at "cozy warmth" from - but as you also see fit to criticize "smelly fly by night have hippy card will travel types" then it would seem that you have a lot of issues with the left no matter what they do with their time.

I have no such problem with you or your beliefs, but if you want to bait a socialist, here is one for you. Cast away, just don't expect me to swallow your arguments hook, line and sinker - and I might bite back!

No, not with the left, just those who claim to espouse leftist values yet by their actions fail to live up to them. Indeed they actively encourage the rent-a-hippy-mobs to do their political activism for them.

Also there are many "average workers" out there on their average wage, who's political leanings are somewhere to the right of Thatcher. On the other side of the coin "smelly fly by night have hippy card will travel types" are not ALL socialists, or even New Labour (sic) supporters, whatever that used to be.

Real socialism as any kind of credible force in the UK died a long time ago.
