And as things stand I'm still utterly perplexed about why you raised the spectre of racism. I can't see what it's got to do with anything that's been said by anyone.

That's probably why you're confused. Things don't have to have been said in order for them to have been in people's minds, or for the potential to exist for them to be raised. That's probably why I said "leaving aside" - ain't my fault you assumed I was looking back at something specific.

I assumed the comment had to have a coherent rational generated in response to the thread and the posts within.

But if the issue of racism just popped into your head for no identifiable reason then fair enough.

Sorry, Epykat, but looking at the Scotsman Archive, the park in question has been known as the Portobello Park for 100 years.

Indeed. The first mention I could find in the archive dates from 1896. I have a total of 58 clippings referring to Portobello Park between then and 1944.
