Is anyone else having trouble accessing it today?
I use http://egfl.net/ so I can access work email from home (I know, sad, isn't it?) Porty and it's working fine ,though I can't access the main council site. I know there was a problem earlier today with another council computer system. Hmm...think I'm in danger of doing an MT here. I'll shut up now

And there is an ever increasing amount of maintance being done to internal software programs and some of the systems, such as the online hr system and the HIS and Northgate database systems. Every week now we get council wide emails advising us of shutdowns for maintance.
For my work emails I either log into the Orb using the remote access thingy, remote.edinburgh.gov.uk or if just for my mail then mail.edinburgh.gov.uk
The corporate website was recently the subject of a tender process. Not sure when it closes etc;wangi wrote:I don't know who is responsible for their IT (internal or external), but it's certainly down much more frequently than is average in the industry...
Think the corporate site is part of the BT contract we have at present.

There was a council wide email (well corporate staff atleast, not sure about teaching staff) saying that the Orb was going to be offline along with some other programs but nothing said about the corporate website. I do wish they would be explicit.
The recent copy of 'Outlook' which popped through my letterbox prompted me to take a closer look at results of a recent survey of local residents, which asked for their views (yes, I know. I didn't take part in it either) on their neighbourhood council services. The results, all 93 pages of them, can be viewed on the council website www.edinburgh.gov.uk and make some interesting reading. For example, compared to the 2007 figures :

70 % of respondants to the survey are happy with the roads maintenance. In my opinion it doesnt seem very representative then.
