it's showtime!!

Yes, it's that time of year again!!!
Mr. Arachnid and I are going to the Highland Show tomorrow!!

Just hope the weather stays dry!!!!

So far the forecast is o.k.
So all I need now is some money, a big bag and my camera!!!!

Anyone else going?

There was some bad news at the show today I see. Child died.

What a sad thing to happen at such a great venue

Well we had a great time at the highland show yesterday. And the weather stayed dry!!!!

Loads to see and do.
A nice walk round the cattle hall, some big coos in there!!!

Then a wee visit to the clydesdale horses, they always have their heads out the stable doors for a nose scratch!

Mr. Arachnid said " good morning" to Nick Nairn, I didn't even notice him, in a world of my own!!!

Had a wander round the crafts and the food hall, trying out a few samples!
The Princess Ryal was in there too! ( think she missed out on the free samples though!!) Bought some jam, shortbread and fudge. Mr Arachnid got some black pudding but it wasn't Stornoway!

Watched some show jumping for a wee while, Jeff Billington's horse refused at the water jump and sent him flying right into the water!!! He was o.k. and did the " breast stroke" action when he came out of it!!!

Decided that was a good time to go for our lunch!!!
Then another wander about, round the shopping areas.Had a look at the farm machinary, not that I was going to buy any!!!

But the size of some of them!!! Huge!!! And they're all so clean and shiny, seems a shame to dirty them in the fields!!!

Anyway after a very enjoyable day and having probably walked a few miles we thought we would make our way home before the rush for a wee cuppa tea and a nice comfy seat!!!

Made it along to the RHS yesterday for the final day. Thankfully the rain stayed off until we had left. Had a great time stuffing my face with over priced food. I couldn't resist the chocolate fondue stand, but was disappointed in the Stornoway haggis from Gourmet Foods ; it wasn't a patch on Findlay's.

Saw Arachnid's handsome pig and some very chatty alpacas as well.

I'm always amazed by the size and range of the farm machinery on display. Despite what is said, there must be some very wealthy farmers out there!

I've never been to the Highland Show- somehow or other I missed all the school trips. Not sure I fancy it all that much; all day surrounded by country type stuff, which I'm frightened of and nothing to eat or drink all day.

OK I can understand that you're a wimp when confronted by a prize Aberdeen Angus bull (or his headscarfed, wax cotton jacketed wife), but you're going to have to explain why you wouldn't be eating or drinking anything.

You are taking the proverbial, aren't you?

Even when I withdrew some cash from a teller at a branch of the RBS, I was being urged to visit their hospitality lounge to take advantage of their free wine and food. Unfortunately, I was driving or I would have attempted to claw back in alcohol some of the money I've paid to the RBS over the years in overdraft charges etc.

There's loads of places to eat Porty.

There are a few marquees where you can either have a snack or a meal. We did just that in the " stockman's pavillion" and had a lovely meal there.
I had fish, potatoes and peas, and Mr. Arachnid had roast beef with peas and chips with tea and coffee to wash it all down. All very hot and freshly made on site. Also had strawberries and cream and fruit salad. So we were certainly well fed!!

And there are bars too if you feel really thirsty!!!

It's a great day out with something to suit almost everyone. Even if your not too keen on the animal side, there's the crafts, the motor zone , holiday homes and the food hall where you can sample or/and buy all sorts of good food!!! If you feel really " flush" you could buy a spa bath or a nice summer house which are also on show there. The trade stands are not just for the country folk. There's books, shoes,clothes, jewellery, ornaments. I could go on and on but think I've said enough aye??? You can probably guess by now that I love going there every year if we can!!!

You do seem to like it, yes!!

All that craft and animal stuff would be enough to put me off my food, so I don't think I will bother. All sounds a bit weird to me. Why do they all get together and why is it not in the highlands?
