I hope they didn't charge you for that. For info, all police officers are now referred to as 'PC'. The term 'WPC' is not considered PC if you get my drift.Marya wrote:When our car last had to undergo 'forensic tests' I was told to drive it down to Portobello Police Station where a very nice young WPC apologised for the lack of fingerprinting kit, dusted the car door and then tried to take the prints using sellotape.

Marya, that sounds identical to the experience we had with Mr Soupys last car.
Come to think of it there was someone else who brought their car around to the police station the same morning, wonder if that was you. Must be about 2 years ago.
The pc did our wee red car then someone elses, I was standing blethering outside Findlays ( so unlike me to blether in the street
)

That's right Soupy. I remember there was another car there and it would be about two years ago. Now trying to rack my brains to remember what you looked like so I can spladoosh you the next time I spot you

The car that we got back last week has now had its windows smashed, just smashed with no reason and no attempt to steal it
Did anyone else have any car problems last night...i know sometimes smashing windows letting down tyres etc are done on whole streets at a time
I am beginning to think that we are being specificlly targetted and it is not a nice feeling!!!!

Unless you can think of a reason why someone might specifically target you BL it is most likely, just as other folk have said, rotten luck and the fact that older cars are easier targets.
Fortunately, we haven't had any car vandalism on our street for a while but there was a period when our car was one of the ones on the street regularly 'done'. At one point we had our rear windscreen smashed on a Friday night ,put the car in for repair on the Saturday, got it back on the Sunday and the windscreen was smashed again that same night. It wasn't anything personal, just the fact that while other cars had alarms ours didn't. Nevertheless, not a nice situation to be in

There is no reason and i know you are right. I have lived here for 13 years now and have never had any trouble and i think just cause all of these things have happened in such a short space of time it makes it seem like that.Posted: Tue Apr 17, 2007 8:28 am Post subject:

Seeing the pictures of the men in drag on the Benidorm thread put a smile on my face though

It seems to go in cycles. We have spates of car windows being smashed just "for fun" and wing mirrors kicked off. Then all goes quiet for a while
Its usually random
Think short, round, red faced and Doc Martens oh and brown hair.

Car damage
I had my windscreen smashed sometime last night in Straiton Place. It's double layer, laminated glass so cracked as opposed to shattering. Still needs replaced though at a cost of £60 excess. It's also been replaced before after someone got artistic with a tile cutter a few years back....eh, also on Straiton Place.

Sorry to hear that Granty. The same was done to my car...The glass was broken perfectly so i dont think it was just smashed in.
Went to the police to report and also to discuss that i was worried that we were being targeted but the officer said that another car in our street had been done on the same night so they didn't think so.
Was being a bit of a drama queen yesterday so thanks to all for all the good wishes!!!

Well, it's happened again.Marya wrote:Fortunately, we haven't had any car vandalism on our street for a while but there was a period when our car was one of the ones on the street regularly 'done'.
Someone tried to nick our car yesterday evening while it was parked in West Brighton Crescent. Used the very sophisticated approach of prising the driver's door with a jemmy. Fortunately the lock didn't give, but it means we have to replace that particular door for the third time.
I must admit I am getting rather weary of it. Poor old car.
How infuriating Marya...even if nothng is taken, it's the cost and inconvenience that gets to you.... maybe you should negotiate a discount and buy a few doors to stock up for next timeMarya wrote:Well, it's happened again.

Thanks for the sympathy everyone. We've actually got a garage Sandra - it's just full of bikes and junk
Frankly, I can't see why anyone would want to nick it. I mean, we're fond of it and know it's a reliable old thing, but (as Porty will testify) it looks like it belongs to the Clampits.
The Police have been very helpful. One of the PCs gave me the address of a car breaker in Inverkeithing so I can do as Foxy suggests and stock up on doors and the woman on the end of the telephone last night commiserated with me and told me she had just got back from holiday to find that her house had been burgled. I told Homer all about it when I got off the phone but funnily enough he didn't seem to be interested.
