Unexpected treat

On Friday evening Mr BM and I were given two tickets to see Kris Kristofferson at the Perth Concert Hall. Why? you may ask.
Well unfortunately our friends who were going ended up at the hospital with their son Owen who fell and hit his face off the coffee table breaking his jaw and both cheek bones and his pinkie, just hours before the show.
Not the best way to be given an expensive treat, but it was a great evening. Kris was playing solo with an acoustic guitar (unplugged as some would say).
The support was a young (Scottish) chap Roddy Hart. Mr BM enjoyed him more. He was very good

An awful, awful accident yet he’s been uncomplaining, stoic and so brave. He was in the operating theatre for well over three hours. My do we love him.
It’s taken a bunch of X-rays but now we have the full story.
Owen fractured his lower jaw vertically. When they went in it wasn’t quite as they first thought, a bit more jagged, and he now has two permanent plates screwed in place. He’s not unhappy with that, re now bionic. That will be fine, cause no problems and not show.
The cheek bone fractures (one each side and not just the one as they first thought) are a little more problematic. They are not straight and have pulled his jaw back around a centimetre. He has plates (not unlike children’s braces) attached to the upper and lower teeth. The surgeon fitted the rubber bands in place this morning - about a dozen - designed to gradually pull the jaw forward as the fractures healed. Unfortunately the displacement is too much and he has to down tomorrow to a special suite where they can apply more pressure and put much stronger bands in place. They will be replaced at intervals.

Owen should be home tommorrow afternoon.

Good grief, poor man/lad/boy!! He and his family def need cyber hugs and SoupD needs to get that crystal of hers working overtime!!

Owen has just turned 30 but he's disabled and he's such a lovely person. He's so gentle and caring.
Mum and Dad are exhausted and shaken, but the worst is over now.
I'll keep you posted and I'll pass on your kind thoughts.

That sounds like a terrible accident - the sort of injuries you'd expect from a car crash not a coffee table! Poor man.

Just caught up with this thread and my sympathies go out to Owen too.
That sounds really nasty, and his poor Mum and Dad must be feeling his pain as much as him. I can remember crying more than my children did when they had nasty injuries, really helped them I' sure.

I was exactly the same, still am and mine are all growed up!!!!

Much rather be ill myself than watch my children suffer!!
Hope Owen is well on the road to recovery, and his parents gradually getting over the shock!!

Went to see Peter, Sheila and Owen today.
They're all pretty tired

and are greatful for all your well-wishes.
Owen is looking better than we thought, but the poor soul looks like he's done a few rounds with Rocky.
He can't talk or eat solids because of the way his jaw is being held together.
He's bearing up really well and hasn't complained once. He's a real trooper.
