Orange broadband

Post by Scorpion » 09 Nov 2006, 20:52

Does anyone else use Orange broadband? I see that you can now upgrade to 2Mbps for free. If you regrade do you have to take a live box? As I already have my own modem/router I do not need it and am not really interested in it. Are there any costs associated with having a live box?

Mine arrives Monday, £5 a month if you spend £30 or more on a mobile contract :-)

I only have pay as you go and I'm not interested in taking out a contract. However, the main problem that I have is that I have just ordered a brand new Netgear Rangemax modem/router/WiFi. I will be very interested to hear what Orange suggest I do with something that might become redundant before I have had a chance to use it :?

Okay, I've bitten the bullet and asked them to change my package. They told me that I do not need the live box so I told them not to bother sending it. I just hope that there are no problems when they change me over. I would hate to have to go back to dial up :( The good thing is that it will save me £8 a month and my speed will double :D

I was just wondering if anyone else was having a slow connection with Orange. At the moment I have 160 Kbps down and 244 Kbps up. According to their help section they are having problems in places in England but there is no mention of Scotland.

Good news, I seem to have cured the problem with my connection speed. I'm not sure how I did it, but I downloaded a firmware update for my modem and then found that I couldn't connect to the Internet . I then reset the modem and logged back on to Orange and it seems to have cured the problem. I'm now running at 2,368 Kbps Previously it was like working with a dial up connection again.

My last modem/router used to keep dropping the connection on a regular basis. I used to think that it was Orange until I realised that it was the modem.
