They all let you down in the end!!!

Post by ali » 14 Oct 2006, 23:39

I've been thinking lately about rock stars and how as you get older you start to see through the hype.

Recently I've noticed a few things that sort of take the shine off them. You just can't trust anything they say.

Mick Jagger for instance was actually born in dartford and not, as he claimed, "in a cross-fire hurricane".

Talking Heads. They had torsos. (Although it was hard to fault their accuracy when they claimed "the name of this band is talking heads").

I think you'll find that Lee Marvin was born in New York, not "under a wandering star".

What can we do about these people?

Anybody got any more examples??

OK - how about these strangers to the truth then?

"Stand by your man" sang five-times-married Tammy Wynette.

"I am a linesman for the county". I think not Glen.

And I don't think Gary Glitter will be declaring "Its good to be back" anytime soon. And...

When was the last time you saw Rod Stewart in his old raincoat?

And what about the Seekers? Did they ever find anything. NO. They got fed up after a while and started again with the New Seekers and they never found anything either.

Pete Townshend in fact, did get fooled again.

Chuck D from Public Enemy rapped :

'I got a letter from the government
The other day
I opened and read it
It said they were suckers'

Now, if indeed there was ever a letter in the first place, I doubt when he opened it, it read :

Dear Mr D,

We are the Government. We are suckers.

Yours,
The Government.

And it has since come to light that neither Simon nor Garfunkel were actually rocks at all.

Nor, it seems, were they islands, the lying b's.

I'm glad that you've just mentioned this thread, Ali, because something has been troubling me of late.

In Kaleidoscope's A Dream For Julie, it says that "Strawberry monkeys are all smiling for Julie, with pearl button eyes that reflect velvet clouds".

Well, I'm sure I've never seen any strawberry monkeys, and if I had, I'm sure they wouldn't've been smiling.

I can't but feel that The Beatles were very advanced. When they were younger, so much younger than today, they never needed help in any way.

So that must mean that they could change their own nappies, sterilise bottles, teach themsleves to read music and everything. How impressive is that? No wonder they were a phenomenon. I did notice it took them quite a while to learn how to cut their hair but they has to be avarge at some things.

Some bloke in the Ormlie informs me that he's seen John Lennon's dental records and they prove that he was never actually a walrus, or indeed any other kind of sea mammal. :o

Well, good for Brucie but if that's the only positive one to emerge after several weeks then I think we're entitled to be cynical.

I can remember when joe strummer's old man was at pains to point out that, contrary to his son's claims, he was never convicted of armed robbery and was, in fact, a senior diplomat in the foreign office.

I still get perplexed and confused when I park in a car park. I can't help but wonder if the car park I'm in was once where Paradise was located.

Dance lovers - Do not pay top prices to see the Spandau Ballet. It is not a crack West Berlin dance troupe but a frill-wristed North London popular music group.

I serioulsy doubt that Jack Flash was born in a cross-fire hurricane. Anyone who has given or attended a birth will confirm that a vivid recollection of the prevailing weather conditions is most unlikely.

I don't believe for one minute that the choir of children who sing their songs have practised all year long.

Ah, but they only said they would...

Usually raving in clubs?

But you know, Shirley Bassey is what she is, and I have to agree with Aretha and Annie that sisters are in fact doing it for themselves. Some, anyway. And you can't argue with Chrissie Hynde when she sang that 2000 miles is very far. So it's not all bad.

If Frank Sinatra was sincere about doing it his way. Why was he singing a song written by Paul Anka?

However, Dame Shirley in no way could be misconstrued as having nothing.

She has a large jewellery collection and several property interests in the Cardiff Bay area.

Today and rather sadly James Browns' "Living in America" has a somewhat hollow ring about it.

Well there is no doubt about that, I agree but this is not as straightforward as you may think. Bruce informed us in 1984 that "I was Born in the USA" and he repeated it over and over again. However, just two years earlier on "Nebraska" he informed us that "my name is Joe Roberts and i work for the state" he went on to telll us that he had a brother named Frankie and that they used to take turns dancing with Maria, as the band played "Night of the Johns' Town Flood".

So its not clear which "I" Bruce was singing about and is he Bruce Springsteen or Joe Roberts?
