Spare wheel stolen
Just to warn locals, I had the spare wheel of my Peugot stolen over the holidays in Mentone Avenue. Didn't realise 'till I was driving over the Forth Bridge and heard something rattling loudly on the road.
The spare wheel is caged under the bonnet and they managed to get the nut and clip off the bolt and pure chored it likes.

CAR CRIME
I'd be interested to hear about anyone else who's suffered car crime. The majority of cars in Porty seem to have scratched paintwork. A couple of year's ago, I found my car covered top to bottom in paint stripper which resulted in a £3000 bill and 9 weeks off the road. My neighbour's one has been set on fire! At the time, the Police said that there were very few reports of cars getting vandalised, but i just think people don't report it.
Was delighted to hear recently that the thieve who stole my Nissan Micra from Windsor Place last Valentine's day was arrested after failing to attend his own intermediate diet and spent Christmas on remand.
The car - which I purchased for £500 and only had 32,000 miles on the clock despite being 12 years old (it was used as a shopping trolley by the prior owner) was written off and due to the vagaries of my insurance company and the car's valuation I received a mere £40 in return.
Only trouble is he'll likely receive a non-custodial sentence, despite his name appearing on the Sheriff Court rolls nearly every other week on a number of indictments.
The recent trend around here has been for car wing mirrors to be ripped off and this happened to me just prior to Xmas, and I have seen a number of other vehicles like this in the last few weeks.
Bizarrely, I also had my petrol cap stolen on Xmas Eve. Why anyone would do such a thing is beyond me, unless of course they wanted to inhale the fumes. Nothing would surprise me anymore.

My theory is that they're only stealing bits so they can make their own car. We've had the casings from our wing mirrors carefully removed on several occasions now - what do they do with them?Jamesie wrote:Only trouble is he'll likely receive a non-custodial sentence, despite his

Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!
Could well be something in that epykat - when I lived in Aberdeen I once had my car stereo stolen, along with the passenger side window!Epykat wrote: My theory is that they're only stealing bits so they can make their own car. The spare wheel of the car I have is kept externally underneath the boot. It has been pinched 3 times so I have not bothered driving around with a spare wheel for a few years now. However, I must admit I find it bliss up here. You do not know what car crime is until you live in Newcastle!
Justice delayed is justice denied.
Car insurance has to be the biggest rip-off ever, costs a fortune and I've yet to hear of anyone who has ever received close to the true value of their car when making a claim. Seems always they'll insure you using prices that go on the basis your car is top of the range and in pristine condition, but if you ever claim.........your car was a heap of **** that is lucky it managed to stay on the road, so here's your derisory offer.Jamesie wrote:.....was written off and due to the vagaries of my insurance company and the car's valuation I received a mere £40 in return......

Car crime baffles me.Not actual crime but vandalism. Over the past 2 years I have had 5 (yes five) wing mirrors broken. I'm at a loss to explain why they do this. I've also had my car (along with the rest of the street) keyed twice in about the same time scale.
I'm not violent, but if I caught the culprits, I'd punch them in the face as hard as I could.
These wee *** need a proper lesson taught to them.
does anyone want to join my vigilante group?

The Guardian Angels have an anti-violence philosophy and whilst they could be argued as being a "vigilante group", I'm not sure that your ethos of pre-judicial violence would be acceptable.Franck wrote:Car crime baffles me.Not actual crime but vandalism. Should anyone ever teach a class in crass hypocrisy, your statement "I'm not violent, but ... I'd punch them in the face" should be used as an example for students of basic aptitude to understand.
You have also attempted to circumvent the profanity filter by your phonetic spelling of a word which we don't accept on this forum.
I'm sure that, despite all this, you think of yourself as being somehow better than the people who damaged your car.

Just a wee aside, if I wanted to spell it using phonetics, I would have called them Sierra Hotel India Tango Sierra's, but the impact would not have been the same. And besides, why not use the occasional swearword? Do you not use them in every day life? I thought message boards like these were meant to reflect that?
Just the same though, I feel your reply was a tad on the anal side, I did use a 'wink' smiley to suggest I didnt want to form any sort of vigilante group, my life is busy enough without such distactions.
And finally, I certainly do think myself better than the individuals who cause so much damage and inconvience to me and others by senseless damage to private property and gladly stand by my punch in the face statement.summary justice works, sometimes the courts do not.
Apolgies for offending again.
additional questions :
If you are advocating violence against minors (which I judge from your use of the word "wee" that you are addressing youth or young persons perhaps still living with their families), would you be happy for the family of the youth/minor you intend to assault to be informed of your name and adress? Would you be happy for your name and address to be published once you carried out your assault?
What sort, if any, of retribution would you allow from the family of the youth you assaulted? Presumably, since you advocate "summary justice", you would like them to come to you directly as opposed to any legally empowered law enforcement?

Nah. What Franck is saying means everyone can do what he is advocating.wangi wrote:Now now, back on the leash!
So everyone who percieves that they are a victim can carry out the justice they see fit on the person they judge is guilty. Think about that. It's not just one person, one keyed car, one punch and one guilty kid.
...And which therefore has just been edited in all three posts, as per forum guidelines.Dadaist wrote: You have also attempted to circumvent the profanity filter by your phonetic spelling of a word which we don't accept on this forum.
Understand your reasoning on the swearing, Franck, but having weighed up all the arguments the decision was reached that as this is a community forum, open to all members of the community including children, for example, swearing is not really appropriate.
*ducks quickly in anticipation...
Back on topic, a couple of years ago Bath St and Mentone Avenue were a nightmare for vandalism against cars. I thought things had improved, but a neighbour had something stolen from her car just after she moved in, and now your car's been hit too, The Gadgee. It seems to be on the up again. Not good news.

If my car had been stolen a month earlier I would have owed the insurance company money, despite being carless! Sorry, I cannot provide requested info. It's a personal point of view that vandals of private property, if caught in the act, deserve some kind of immediate penalty i.e. punched.Dadaist wrote:Can you point us to the research that "summary justice" works?
Which societies advocate it and how is it overseen?
With respect to your use of language on the forum, I think you need to read the forum rules.
read and understood the rules.
So you advocate that an adult male should be allowed to deliberately aim a blow, with full force, at the head of a child - with no other judge or witness present?Franck wrote:Sorry, I cannot provide requested info. How would you ensure that the child did not end up with a life-threatening or seriously debilitating injury, or even death?
A blow to the head is very serious, and in the case of an adult male applying it to the head of a child with full force, potentially disabling and life-threatening - don't you think?
If you are advocating violence against minors strangely enough, noDadaist wrote:additional questions :

If we use my car as an example, its no doubt parked outside my house, so I'm sure even the most idiotic vandal could do some basic detective work to establish my whereabouts

Presumably, since you advocate "summary justice", you would like them to come to you directly as opposed to any legally empowered law enforcement I'd be happy to discuss the situation with any relative of the vandal, I'm big enough and ugly enough to not only stick up for myself, but understand that you have to accept responsabilty for your actions.
Well, I'm not suggesting that a child committed the various acts of random vandalism I have referred too.Obviously, if i discovered it was say,a 6 year old, i would rethink my positionDadaist wrote: So you advocate that an adult male should be allowed to deliberately aim a blow, with full force, at the head of a child - with no other judge or witness present?

I'm quite sure however, that it was a drunken wee ned
I made the assumption (probably incorrectly) that by using the word child, you could then snare me into the 'you would therefore hit an 8 year old'Dadaist wrote:Why use the word "wee" then in describing the prepetrators of the alleged crime?
How would you ascertain that they were over 16 if you are now saying that you would not in fact assault a child?

Short People got no reason
Short People got no reason
Short People got no reason
To live
They got little hands
Little eyes
They walk around
Tellin' great big lies
They got little noses
And tiny little teeth
They wear platform shoes
On their nasty little feet
Well, I don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
`Round here
Short People are just the same
As you and I
(A Fool Such As I)
All men are brothers
Until the day they die
(It's A Wonderful World)
Short People got nobody
Short People got nobody
Short People got nobody
To love
They got little baby legs
That stand so low
You got to pick 'em up
Just to say hello
They got little cars
That go beep, beep, beep
They got little voices
Goin' peep, peep, peep
They got grubby little fingers
And dirty little minds
They're gonna get you every time
Well, I don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
'Round here

I would demand to see photographic identification before carring out my form of justice.Dadaist wrote:So how would you make sure they were old enough for you to assault with potentially deadly force?
Actually, no.I would make a split second judgement that the vandal is of an age for me to justify it to me. what factors I hear you ask would I use? Well, being out in the middle of the night (when all the crimes against my innocent car took place) is a good indication, as is being drunk...which might be a presumption, but a pretty good one no doubt.

There was an early nineties american cop show, which I think only ran for one series. It was hard hitting and violent, as many of these cop shows are, but with a difference: it was a musical cop show - pretty much all (I think) the dialogue was sung. And the music was by Randy Newman I now remember, thanks to you. Can't remember the name of the programme though.Porty wrote:What was the question?

I thought it was supposed to be humorous, but it seems not, which makes it all the more bizarre:
