The November Big Read
Time to select a contender for November. Polling closes on Friday.
I have nothing to say and I'm going to say it.

Well, sirrathbone wrote:Well ladies, this month it looks like I'm reading English Passengers, one of you is reading The Alchemist and Epykat is definitely not reading Girl With A pearl Earring
this month I am actually trying to do Octobers 253 (when I find a shop with it in stock)
Meanwhile, I'm relaxing with a recent Annie Proulx collection to help clear my mind of the September *thing*

The hardback was only £3 in Fopp. I'm going to read this controversial tome next.
Nevertheless, I will make an attempt to start reading Cloud Atlas soon.

No, I'm currently digging my way through some 'Bad Dirt' - it's like Wyoming Stories, but weirder...rathbone wrote:Oh ----- That Old Ace In The Hole?mr magnolia wrote:Meanwhile, I'm relaxing with a recent Annie Proulx collection to help clear my mind of the September *thing*
ps, if this is going to enlarge itself into some Annie Proulx chat (and why not) I'd like to confess to having found 'Accordian Crimes' striking a bum note when I read it a while ago, and that hurts me a bit 'cos like you Marya I just love all the rest of her stuff.
edit - get the book name right...

I'd just like to confirm that I thoroughly enjoyed MY November read of Annie Proulx's 'Bad Dirt' stories.
Good stuff, albeit a little bit 'samey' after the Close Range stories, and some of the characters seemed a little caricatured (sp?) for the sake of it as opposed to being an effort to convey the outrageousness of real life.
Recommended though.
