DisgustedPR has a right to call him/herself what he/she likes as long as it doesn't contravene posting guidelines, and I'm concerned that you feel it appropriate to level criticism at a new member for their choice of username.

With regard to the other point, I also feel that DPR has a right to stand up for his/her friend and to give another side to what was going on that night. Epykat had a right to criticise the service; surely other people have a right to defend it? His/her explanation doesn't alter Epykat's experience, and I can't see anywhere where it tries to; it just shows the other side. I thouight that was something you were quite keen on, showing that there are usually two or more sides to a story. I'm disappointed by your response - not your usual standard, I'm afraid.

Bellybabe
I'm disappointed with your response to my response.

1. Your first paragraph fails to deal with my main point. Do you think somebody who joins with a name like that wants to make more than one point on more than one topic, and be reasonable about it? There is a big difference between the topic of your first post and what you choose to style yourself as. And that's *if* this isn't DPR's sole post. Do we call all of our posts "a post by Bellybabe" ? No. Do we change our names every time we post? No. Forums like this work because we use tags and compartmentalize our thoughts in a structured way. Go off and invent your own standard for message interchange if you like - as far as I am concerned, name tags and post topics are separate entities.

2. Whoah. You have, by implication, put words in my mouth. How could you miss the bit where I said "in all probability Epykat got it wrong" - where did I get that idea from - er, from DPR's post of course!!! So where does that fit into the strange idea that DPR doesn't have the right to defend his/her friend? My criticism was not based on DPR's post, but on two things :

(a) His/Her choice of screen name. See 1.

(b) His/Her mistaken criticism of Epykat as having "slagged" someone off.

If I am out of line for telling DPR that he/she is out of line, then you are out of line for telling me I am out of line for telling DPR that he/she is out of line.

Where is your line now?

Must admit when I saw the user name I did wonder what was in store for us. My money was on a disgruntled karaoke singer from the Tides Inn, but, of course, that's Scarlet Sadie :D

Dada, I agree 100% with you - poor choice of username and a misunderstanding on a (I'd say) seeming innocent observation by E.

To move backwards, in reply to "DISGUSTEDportyRESIDENT"... I think it is perfectly valid to complain about service when it is not up to the level expected. The staffing levels, other staff, etc, etc are no concern of the customer - they are the concern of the management and the staff. Sure, people have bad days, people are sometimes a bit off when dealing with customers... However this isn't the customers fault!

Or would you have everyone wear a big badge - "sorry, I might be stroppy today - overworked & underpayed"?

Obvioulsy it easier to read people when you know them.

Pedantry and backpedaling. Wink all you like, but respond properly to my response please, or withdraw your accusation that I am out of line for saying DPR's name and accusation are more out of line than Epykat's original line outage, from DPR's perspective.

No. I didn't accuse you of being out of line, I gave it as my opinion, and I'm entitled to it, just as you're entitled to yours about DPR's username and response about the bar staff. I'm not going to get into one of your long, drawn-out scraps today, D, as I've got things I need to do, and they're more important than verbally jousting with you. Sorry to disappoint you.

I'm not disappointed as clearly you'll be back to defend yourself properly as soon as possible. I will be waiting.

As it happens, it is child's play for you.

However, I was referring to DPR's post. Everyone is banging on about the undoubtedly poor service. No-one seems to be interested in the arrival of the barmaid's unborn child.

Its ok for folk like Epykat, who as far as i can gather, staggers from one drink to the next and has obvioulsy forgotten what its like to be with child. She has taken to stopping out til all hours with scant regard for the wellbeing of those that are caught up in her incessant quest for hedonistic pleasure. I bet her own drink survived the Utopia cut-off.

A word of advice Epykat; the next time you are looking for a last minute snorkel, just take a second or two to enquire after the health and welfare of your intended server. If they are tired, have an ongoing Domdis or maybe even have their current lover waiting eagerly for their shift to end. Take a long hard look at yourself and say "do I really need that drink"? You may feel better in the morning.

But then again he probably wasn't pregnant.

Neither am I, generally speaking, I meant as experienced by Epykat on the night in question. I don't believe she is making the story up.

Hello everybody! And welcome to Disgusted of Portobello :D
I really do hope the barmaid is feeling better. I have absolutely no ill feeling towards the girl whatsoever and yes, I do know what it's like to be pregnant, tired and working. I wasn't slagging her off I was merely making an off the cuff remark about what happened. I'm not even complaining! I do think it's a bit unfair of you though Disgusted to try to imply that I might either have known what kind of day she had had/was going to have. As Wangi pointed out, my friends and I were CUSTOMERS making an OBSERVATION not a complaint. And I also hope you're feeling better now that you've got that off your chest.
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

And I didn't say the service was POOR, if anything it was over-enthusiastic! Anyway, I didn't like the pub (nothing to do with the staff) and I probably won't go back very often so all's well that ends well :D

I have been practising 'The Clash - Should I Stay or Should I Go' on my daughters PS2 Krakatoke machine - but after 3 months I am still only getting 'Lame Duck' as a rating. Should I ever venture public, now that would really annoy the neighbours! 8)

Sadie I think before you hit the high note .:0.: you should think, should I go or should I stay, as you may go on to spoil a perfect day, because oh my god. I predict a riot :bom: If you continue on Saturday night. Plus it out date and not the modern way to sing \:D/ so loud down at the river. Why don’t you give it a miss and go to Mary’s place before it hit’s the midnight hour and your left with only memories. :crybaby: I suggest you keep moving to the sunshine :sunny: on Leith.
If you stay Sadie then every day I love you less and less. :^o

Pal of Porty, there aint no such thing as a lame duck - looks like Maureen and you should join me on Saturday night in a ABBA medley. Dancing Queen, Waterloo, and that Mexican bloke what gets shot. :x We could introduce ourselves as the Portobello Plonkers and get punch drunk (get it) show the pub what happens when they mess with the best.

Sadie, I don’t know about Pal of Porty but if I was even to consider it we would have to get a few ground rules.
1) The minuet you looked as if you were about to dance around your hand bag it's over befour it even starts.
2) Turn up in you favourite big shoulder spangled outfit :glasses6: then you’re on your own. A position I'am sure you find your self in a lot
3) Don’t hog the Mick .:0.: its bad scheme pub, etiquette.
4) If there’s to be a dancing Queen :queen: its Pal of Porty or no one OK.
5) We go some where out of town and away from residents. Less likely to be spotted. :glasses7:
6) You pay for the taxi home.
7) And most importantly, you bay the chips on the way home.

geographical problem - its below sea level - so the tide will be permanatly inn! what a bonus eh!!

So its desert Island discs,
Am gonna wash that man right outa ma hair \:D/

So has this debate moved on to taking the punch pub Kareoke team on holiday or at least dropping them off on a deserted island?
:blob5: I supose that's one way of shutting us up. Can I suggest Benidorm? Quiet and classy - Viva La Espania.

I'll dance round my handbag in any country Maureen although I don't think I can take my extra stong hair spray on the plane without causing a major security alert. Feel free to join me and Pal of Porty on a Kareoke Kontinental Kruise,

Apologies Sadie, what I should have highlighted was 'DESSERTED ISLAND KAREOKE' I have it on good authority that South Georgia is exceptionally nice at this time of year. Be sure to take your handbag and cossies, and tennis raquetts a pre requisite, by having these with you, you will be sure to get around more easily

I think I will just concentrate on keeping kareoke live and loud in Porty. :headbang: It's not as if the prefects have done anything to stop me. Maureen come over to the dark, side get your tonsils into gear and join me on a night at the coca coca ca banna (el punchero pubos) - I'll buy the chips. Alternatively I could change loyalties and we could set up in Maureen front room. I can just see the headlines ' pub closes due to noise from neighbours kareoke machine!'

.... a self appointed cabal which meets behind closed doors .... a cynical corporate agenda barely covered with a veneer of benevolence .... the oppressed not invited but patronised .... the problems continue despite or even because of the policies put forward by those in the meeting .... the group resolve to meet again amongst much back-slapping even in the midst of the anguish of the disenfranchised who knock on their very gates ....

It's I good thing I'm back from my holidays in time to lower the tone again.

So what's the news? Have Punch Taverns survived another day to provide in home entertainment (whether to want it or not) or has it gone to the big Butlins Holiday camp in the sky?
