Boring house/DIY thread

Boring thread coming up - feel free to ignore!

When we bought our house, the people who lived here before had some pretty horrific ideas of how to make a house look good (you've seen the pics...). And the bits they hadn't painted with seaside scenes that might feature in Freddy's Nightmares, they covered with this:

Image

So last weekend, when our neighbours came to help us move our shed, armed with wine, we went round to see their house with its lovely "original features" and moaned about our horrible pine. And then we all came back here for more wine. And more. And after the third bottle we all thought it would be a good idea to rip off a bit of our pine, and see What Lies Beneath.

And we found...

...this!

Why - why would anyone cover up this (which underneath the fablon and polyfilla is really rather lovely) with tongue and groove? The only rooms in our house containing no tongue and groove were the bedrooms - and they were, I suspect, a hallucinogenics-induced horror.

And then we ripped off a bit from the hall to find a proper pretty wooden railing underneath two layers of hardboard and pine hideous panelling...

Don't know what we'd have done if we'd ripped off the panelling to find even worse underneath  - but you don't care about that after a day of wine with the neighbours!

BB, how lovely! What a great find. You can't beat these old, original features. Nice to find they're still there and not been ripped out.

In one of our houses we inherited a floor to ceiling 'feature fireplace' made from concrete breeze blocks  The bits of the wall that hadn't been breeze blocked had huge mirror tiles covering the wall and suede lining in the cupboard.
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

Not really, Bearcub - it holds 32, so 6 isn't doing well at all!!! (And yes, we often fill it...) :(
