I liked Bob, he seemed like a nice fellow. (Bit of a fusspot sometimes mind). Still thats what you want in a moderator.
What a tragedy. He'll be missed around here. All because of a Cumberland Sausage, too.

I'm checking my cupboard and fridge immediately. It is scary how one product has contaminated so many others.

I had a look on the label of my worcester sauce bottle, and it didn't mention worcester sauce anywhere in the ingredients.

It makes me feel particularly smug and domestic goddessy to be able to say that I don't have a single item from that list in my cupboards, and that the only one there would ever be a chance of me having in would be the Worcestershire sauce, and that only for Bloody Marys, which I don't drink anyway.

Headline writers are having fun - on Yahoo just now - "Food Firms Face Danger Dye Deadline".

So it turns out that Gautam Export in India sold chilli to EW Spices, who sold to East Anglian Food Ingredients, who sold to Unbar Rothon, who sold to Premier Foods who added the now contaminated chilli to Worcester Sauce and exported it to Italy.

And there's me thinking that my Shepherd's pie was lovingly made in the Pentlands by a real Shepherd, in a sort of rustic wood-burning oven thing, and that he brought it down to Morrison's in his satchel.

Well, I'm done with processed and packaged food for now. I'm sticking to safe wholesome foods - like Lanark Blue cheese, a nice runny fried egg, some beef on the bone. And a glass of tap water.

Interesting letter in The Herald yesterday when a doctor pointed out (and I paraphrase) - that whilst there is a very small theoretical risk of developing cancer if you consume loads of Sudan 1, the supermarkets are busily emptying shelves of 400 different foods at one end of their stores whilst at the other end the cigarette kiosk continues selling packs of cigarettes (containing a government health warning), which have been scientifically proved to kill you.

.....and said doctor has most likely been prescribing Co-Proxamol, which was busily emptied from Pharmacist's shelves the other week.

Diana Cairns has asked me to post the following link to a very interesting article by Joanna Blythman in yesterday's Guardian. Diana, as soon as you are finished with this superstore business I'm coming round to your house to show you how to post a link!

That's an interesting article, Bob. I'm glad that most (although not all) of the food I cook / eat is made from scratch. However, all this is very concerning.

Because they are not illegal (as is Sudan 1) and because the health risk is known and people make an informed choice as to whether or not to buy them. Somehow, I don't see food manufacturers putting a "shepherd's pie kills" warning on food packets but maybe they should.
