I wonder if anyone could help? Being new to Portobello I have not checked out the local pubs yet. Could anyone tell me which are the best in the area?
Thanks

Well, according to the poll we ran a while back it's the Ormelie in Joppa by some margin but honourable mention should go to the Bedford as the sole remaining drinking establishment on the Prom and the Old Pier gets brownie points for its support for community events.

Oh, and it's a pint of 80 shillings if you're buying!

I was scanning the "early years" and discovered this little beauty; From student to professor in a very short space of time.

Sandra - what did you learn? (apart from how to stay home and sup champagne)
I've only managed The Ormelie (bit too smoky at the time I went) and the Old Pier (which I thought was great)
Best pint so far is in Mussleburgh, at The Volunteer / Staggs, but you have to watch out for the magnolian father-in-law there!

Quite like the Old Pier also. Ormelie is ok too but can be bit smoky. Not ventured to Musselburgh pubs....yet

For a nice girl like you the Dalreada (formerly the Bedford) on the Prom East is worth trying.

I think you'll find she's "been there, done that" (but not in the tee-shirt) already Brian

It's all that wining and dining that Bearcub makes her suffer the poor girl

I got the impression that she was wanting to check out the local talent as well as the ales.

You don't happen to frequent "The Dalriada" by any chance Brian?

Brian, I was one of the POL members who attended the Christmas Lunch plus have been there on separate occasions for lunch and dinner. Yes, it is a very nice pub.
