Scrabble
I think Ali and played that a couple of Xmases ago with his family. It was great fun and everyone got hugely competitive and I think i might have won but Ali would probably disagree on that point.Porty wrote:OMG I forgot about Trivial Pursuit, how can that be? It was all the rage.
ECM, I got a game I think you would like, for xmas. Its a 3 CD set of "Guess the Intros". 1300 tracks from the 70's and 80's. I wanted to play but noone would, as they assumed I would win. Sad but probably true.
you mean you're supposed to have tactics...must be where I'm going wrongecm wrote:Back to Scrabble - did you see the sketch on Little Britain where the rotten hypnotist tried to persuade his Mum that there was such a word as "cupboardy"???
that's the sort of tactic I might resort to.
cheating, i mean, not hypnotising opponents!
I love playing Scrabble but will never manage to beat my mum at this game! She's the Scrabble Queen
We have a few board games. Mr DG got Cluedo for Christmas and we've already had several fun, drunken games (one of which I managed to win I may add!). Mr DG went to Asda before Christmas with a list of essentials to get and came home with more Christmas decorations and the game Frustration. He's a big softy at heart!
We were recently at friends and played some after dinner games including one called Riotous Applause - it was great - a combination of charades, word guessing, telling stories, etc. Hadn't heard of it before but was determined to get a copy. Went on a mission around the stores to no avail - no-one had heard of it. So did a search and the only thing that came up was on ebay. I then made my first bid and had to bid several times with another fan of the game. Thought there was no way I'd get it - but I did and it arrived on Christmas Eve
! Very happy!

I last played Scrabble a couple of months back and it turned out to be the one and only time I have ever beaten my wife in over a decade of trying. I am thinking of retiring from the game and hanging up my letters, now that I have achieved one of my life objectives.
P.S. I am not pants at Scrabble - I just do not win very often!

I think that's a word....I wouldn't allow it if anyone else tried it thoughecm wrote:What about "cupboardy"?Pal of Porty wrote:BTW - I do not think my wife thinks I have retired from Srabble as she gave me the Official Scrabble Dictionary for Xmas! So if you ever want confirmation that 'ZARF', 'ZHO', and 'YEX' are all allowable words, then just give me a call.

Can you settle a Scrabble argument for me Pop?
Is either Quo or Ro an allowable word?
I won't tell you which side I'm on
Well done, Mr DG, we LOVE Frustration! And Connect Four. Much more our intellectual level
. We're also quite keen on Pop Up Pirates, especially when we've got PMS
.
I like Scrabble but other half doesn't. We did play Trivial Pursuit the other night though... We also love playing Halma - it's like draughts but easier (I'm terrible at draughts). We have Cleudo but my nephew persuaded eldest offspring to play it (not knowing any rules) one day and lost half the stuff.

All I really need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt!

I love and adore any and all board games. The great thing at the moment is that my neice (5) is well up for board game championships and has even grasped Mastermind, although the favourite is Connect 4.
Yesterday, as Neo-Dadaist slept, boisterous neice was kept occupied for a good 20 minutes or so (as was Uncle Dadaist) with a competition to become the ultimate Connect 4 champion of the world, complete with home-made certificate.
The extra-special thing is that the Connect 4 set we're playing on is the same one that I used to play on with my sister!
I am well known at work as the guy who has got a Risk set under his desk in the eventuality that the network goes down and we all have to sit twiddling our thumbs (this has happened, but sadly not for a while).
