POL T-shirt supporting PCATS

Post by administrator » 07 Nov 2004, 18:14

We sold 21 shirts at £15 each, giving us an income of £315. After costs we were left with a profit of £70. This has paid for the web hosting costs for the next 12 months, the renewal of our domain name and the purchase of our new one. The balance of £10 is going to Porty to reimburse him for the dummy account on FR.

This means that the website is currently self-sufficient and paid for by the people who use it.

We didn't make a huge profit from the first print run because we had the set up costs to cover. The next batch however will be cheaper to print and from now until 1 March when the Public Enquiry starts ALL proceeds from sales will go directly to PCATS. POL users have demonstrated their overwhelming support for the campaign and this is a way that we can promote POL and support PCATS at the same time.

If, like me, you have just bought a T-shirt you may not want to rush out and immediately buy another. On the other hand it would make the perfect Xmas present!

In case anyone wishes to purchase a T-shirt but does not want the proceeds to go to PCATS that's fine. Just let me know and the profit from that shirt will go to POL alone.

Agree ECM. Although I totally support PCATS in their aim, I think the decision on where any profits from people buying T-shirts on this forum should be subject to a bit more of a democratic process??

Moved this over as requested Bob, but seems you've cut short any possibility for debate by your previous post

Any profits will be used exclusively for the promotion of Portobello Online.
So said in your opening post on the T Shirt thread on Sep.9th. Bob.

Have to agree with Bearcub that a change to this stance deserves a bit more consultation with the people who have helped raise this money.
I don't doubt that most T shirt purchasers would be quite happy to have the profits go to PCats but that is only an assumption and not one I would have thought should be followed through without some discussion.

Don't mean to give you grief over this Bob - honest! Just my opinion.

But hang on - none of the money raised so far has gone to PCATS, as I have explained. It is only profits from FUTURE sales that will go to PCATS. I am being completely open about this so that people know exactly where the money is going and I have already stated that anyone wishing to buy a shirt can choose to opt out from the profit on that shirt going to PCATS. Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't see where the problem is here.

I'm hoping that PCATS supporters will buy this T-shirt in large numbers and that lots of people will be wearing it in Porty High St. That helps us and the campaign, so it's a win-win situation. Portobello Online is a community website and the traders are an essential part of that community. If we can help their cause in some small way then I'm sure that most of us will be happy to do so.

I'm with Bob on this one (and I'm normally one of the first to jump in!), none of the money from the last set of tshirts has went anywhere near PCATS.

Bob, thanks for the hardwork seting up the first run and for directing the funds to pay for this site.

Bob

I think that the problem is here that YOU have decided who is going to profit from the T-shirt sales. You should have put it to all forum members. At the end of the day, we would probably all have decided that the PCATS were the most worthy cause.

I'm serious, you're stressing me out. I think I need an Indian head-massage.
