Edinburgh Marathon 2011 - Sat/Sun

This year's Edinburgh Marathon is on Sunday, with a 5k, 10k and junior run on Saturday.

As with the last few years the Marathon makes its way along Seafield, Portobello Promenade and Musselburgh Road, then a trip through East Lothian before doubling back to finish up at Musselburgh golf course. Naturally this will mean traffic & parking disruption in Portobello on Sunday morning, especially on Seafield (closed) and between Joppa and Musselburgh. Lothian buses are running an altered service, see http://lothianbuses.com/news/2-general- ... -2011.html
  • 21 and 49 with diversions before Portobello
    44 terminating at Eastfield
    Most 26 terminating at Eastfield
    26A to Fisherrow

Hopefully a good turnout to cheer on folk as they run along the Prom! Anyone doing the race - Bernie again?

And now for the blatant personal part...
Call to arms. Some idiot is after your cash for a good cause, that idiot is me. I'm going to be running 10k round Arthur's Seat on Saturday for a good cause. And I've not run more than 1 minute in 2 years. No training. Ouch. Serious ascent / descent... Please share your well earned pounds sponsoring our team taking part in the 5 and 10k Edinburgh Marathon runs on Saturday thanks: http://www.justgiving.com/conceptsystems (see the route map)

Yep, Bernie is running again this year, after I got a bit of a respite last year due to his broken ankle. He'll be wearing a Portobello Running Club vest (white with blue and yellow chest bands) and a red number 212. I know he gets a real boost from running along the prom and the home crowd, so if you spot him, please give him a bit of encouragement. I think he'll really need it, looking at the weather forecast and the wind speeds predicted for Sunday :? He gave up smoking (after over 30 years of cigarettes!) as part of his training this year, so I'm hoping he gets a good time and will be encouraged to stay off the fags after the marathon is over. Fingers crossed!

Heading off on holiday tomorrow, so good luck guys. And congrats to Bernie on giving up the fags. That's better than winning any marathon.

I'll probably be on the Prom Sunday watching the runners go by - will keep a watch out for Bernie too. I did try to do a bit of running with pram in front!

Hey, that's all the rage with young trendy mums in the Sciennes area. I often see a group of them jogging through the Meadows. Only a matter of time before someone starts a group in Porty. Take a look at this serious piece of kit:

I think what I have seen is probably this:

BuggyStrides

No class as yet on the Promenade but it would make a good venue. You could start your own class for post-natal dads, wangi?

I've got issues talking about my pregnancy weight gain

Got round the 10k in ~58 mins - so pretty happy with that given the training regime and the bloody hills!

Well done Wangi. I bet you're glad that's over ....for another year

For those intending to watch the Marathon runners tomorrow, it is worth mentioning that the elite runners will set off at 9.50 rather than 10.00, so the lead runners will arrive that wee bit earlier on the Prom this year.

The Half Marathon sets off at 8.00 am.

Our pink balloons - someone pilfered them later on while we came back for a look stop. Drummers were amazing. Runners were amazing.
