Perhaps my powers of deduction are failing? I'm thinking they weigh ones' old clothes and then buy them off one, paying a certain amount per kilo.
Might be worth using sand to fill the pockets on your old cargo jeans and taking them in.

You forgot Fashion Police,
mind you they'd probably be better starting with the 3 bodies you mentioned above ...................
then wade in to the 'kilo clobber shop' - these clothes are going to be sent to some poor 'boogga' that's gonna have to wear them.

Nobody's tried it so how would they know? Bob - get a shop like that opened and give it a whirl, we're in dire need of something a bit more upmarket than Shrek in a kilt.

OMG, I've just spotted it. I can just imagine what PAS will have to say about that.

Do you go about with your eyes shut? It's been there for a fortnight
I can't believe they painted a newly cleaned sandstone wall jobby brown

Complete with an annoyingly catchy ad campaign on local radio... Which you can also "enjoy" via their website:

Looks like someone has complained about the shopfront. I've not seen it yet does anyone have a photo?

Just look at Wangi's link to the ad and you've pretty much got the shop front - only Kilted Shrek is about 9 feet high ....it's very tastefully done though

Re: Cash 4 Clothes, on Portobello High St
Arrived back couple of days ago and have just seen the 'Shrek shop' and think it is not exactly in keeping with the rest of the high street!!!!!
Re: The shops thread (was: Empty Shops on Porty High St)
I think it is a painted board fixed to the wall Epy , so hopefully it could be easily removed.Epykat wrote:Do you go about with your eyes shut? It's been there for a fortnightI can't believe they painted a newly cleaned sandstone wall jobby brown

They screwed batons to the front and then screwed the board onto those but round the side I think they painted the stone.

Enforcement notice: Enforcement Notice-1143502.pdf

Look like Shrek's number is up. Its such a pity to self inflict additional, unnecessary costs when trying to eak a living out of Portobello High Street. It is tough enough already.

Agree it's got to be hard to make a living and tis unecessary expense will be hard to swallow for the Shrek owners. How easy is it for new property owners to understand that it's a conservation area - is there a document that sets out the style of frontage the community would like to see in our town?

Well for the Portobello conservation area there is the character appraisal; see attached PDF.mcdryburn wrote:is there a document that sets out the style of frontage the community would like to see in our town?

Re: Cash 4 Clothes, on Portobello High St
This is what it says about shops and frontage - not very great (and not a great deal of improvement since 2002)
"Although there are shopfronts of historic or architectural quality, the majority are
modern replacements in timber or metal which, for the most part, incorporating
poor quality and badly proportioned signage. A number of shops are vacant and
boarded up."
What I don't knw is where someone would see what our community wants their high street to look like - how should the frontage look, what a re the standards. So the traders get any help with this or are they left to find out for themselves?
