Portobello/Craigmillar car thefts

City car crime hotspots revealed. Seem to have been a few in this part of the city.

According to the Evening News:


Cars stolen in 2008

Almond: 52
Drumbrae/Gyle: 36
Corstorphine/Murrayfield: 31
City Centre: 86
Leith Walk: 139
Forth: 81
Inverleith: 44
Leith: 96
Sighthill/Gorgie: 108
Fountainbridge/Craiglockhart: 35
Meadows/Morningside: 73
Southside/Newington: 72
Craigmillar/Portobello: 129
Pentlands: 30
Collinton/Fairmilehead: 24
Liberton/Gilmerton: 92
Craigentinny/Duddingston: 104

The majority of those crimes were carried out by the same perpetrators unfortunately. The penalties handed out by the courts for this are of no deterrent whatsoever - the guy who stole mine didn't even get a fine.
