Total guess but maybe it has something to do with the travelling funfair -Planet Fun-that opens on (I think) the 29 March on Seafield?

You won't need the top deck of a bus to see it P - sure you can see it from space  . Brace yourself Portobello.

Can't see who or what can come into Porty that isn't already here.

We've already got knife-throwers and a media circus.

edit -> oo that was a sneaky edit Epy!! And there was me responding to your now-deleted post!

looked this morning , much clearer what it is now , was just the middle part yesterday , wonder how busy Porty will be when the fair opens , people will come from all over . I feel sorry for the locals trying to find a parking space. Guess we'll have more chip papers , pizza boxes for a few days , oh well  :(

Wow it's a BIG ferris wheel.
Wouldn't call that Seafield Road though. I have a picture in my head of people wandering round the sewage works looking for candyfloss

An aversion to facial hair, Bob? I'm sure Cleopas said the same! Better watch out if passing my door as Mr Soupy and Clanger 2 are both a bit hairy. The only razors in this house belong to the females, for their legs, before anyone says anything

 So it looks as though the rides are being built inside the Scottish Power site then SoupDragon? Suppose folk will be able to spot them from a fair bit away but the posters are certainly misleading.

I spotted the top of the wheel above the rooftops - can't wait to have a go on it. Can't work out where it is though. Is it next to the bus depot by King's Road? Can I get to it from the prom?

It is actually inside the Scottish Power site Rapunzell , behind the Bailyefield cottages.

It's on the old Scottish Power site - access from Fishwives Causeway.

There were some concerned residents from the Baileyfield cottages at last night's CC meeting. The funfair's arrival seems to have caught everyone off guard - because it is a temporary entertainment licence residents are not consulted and cllrs not informed. The police representative had just returned from his holidays and the first he knew about it was when he saw the posters.
There was some discussion about the fact that the licence allows it to operate between the hours of 12 noon and 9 p.m. but that the flyers give opening times as 1 p.m. - 10 p.m. and whether noise levels would be monitored by the council.

I would suggest that this is a PR disaster for BL Developments. They have put considerable effort into being seen to be sensitive to the community's wishes over the Scottish Power site, which until now had largely paid off.

The MD, Phil Myerscough, presents himself as a caring, sharing kind of guy and has appeared as a guest speaker at recent CC meetings where his vision of a development based mainly on housing met with approval from many members including the PCATS contingent.

How much do you reckon M&D paid BL for this short term lease? Unfortunately, Phil was not at Monday's meeting to answer this question as he is currently on vacation.

I'd suggest it's just a fair and some folk need to get over themself. Lets ban fun, as for "the wrong kind of people", geez...

Again the EN automatically tar everyone in Portobello with the same simplistic view and opinion.

"Fairs attract the wrong type of people"

 Way to go to get sympathy. Wonder who the "right kind of people" are, and if they there is a "rightness" test they could hire to check people at the entrance....
