I'd like to say that I like installation art, I like BTOTB 2005, I don't care what it means, I'd really like an Anthony Gormley installation as well, and Ed's tee shirt is rather striking...

Like the reflections, Dakota.

I meant Sunday's, actually. I'm sure the others were just as striking though.

Love the reflection in the groyne triangle - good one!

So, anyone remember what the five "things" of Portobello's past are that the socks are meant to represent? I was stumped trying to write the description to go along with today's picture of the day:
Image(larger)

The five windsocks that make up the Big Things on the Beach 2005 installation - Progression - each signify one of the industries that were key in building up the town of Portobello: glass, salt, clay, ... eh, I'll have to pay a bit more attention!

There's one section of the beach next to where all the old potteries were, and where the Figgate Burn empties into the sea, which is full of reminders of this past - rounded bits of glass, pottery shards and dumped bricks. All made in Portobello. A fascinating walk at low tide.

Paper salt and pottery ....................plus glass and bricks? So what's the other two?? Air guitar?? krakatoke?

My "graphic languages" are not that good.

More arty farty speak "the visual impact and placement of the banners creates a dialogue and interdependency reflecting the harmonious notion of a community"

The five elements are brick, clay, glass, paper and salt. Or better still, take a stroll along the prom and read the notices on each groyne.

As for arty-farty language, what else do you expect from artistic types dahling?

Foxy, excuse the bad typing - I meant that our esteemed moderator Marya undertook to collect some planning procedure proposal literature from PoP and Portly's emporium to deliver to dccairn's hoose.

What was wrong with Portly delivering it himself? Why should the blod ned have to make the drop off? Is she in some way involved in all of this? Did Portly not wish to be seen at DCs door? And WHAT's in POPs video  (this is getting like an episode of Taggart)
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

Portly had agreed to do the drop-off (see the Threatening PM thread), but had left the building when I 'pooped' in and has now gone on holiday or something. PoP told me that the Blonde Ned was going to be in the emporium the next day anyway to pick up some BRA BBQ stuff or something so it seemed a good idea to ask her to do the needful.

And I don't know if outsiders are allowed into WBC?

Sorry can't enlighten you about the content of PoP's video - don't think I want to know any more about it, really

Poppy, the blode ned did indeed call in to my abode last night. I thought Portly was too scared to deliver aforementioned goods.

What I want to know is of what is blode ned an anagram? Ideas on a postcard please.

PS I know nowt about PoP's video, honest.
