I know a few of the local skater fraternity, and their parents.

3 of them, possibly about 16, but then I am not very good at guessing ages. If it makes you feel any better, they were using hardboard to skate off

Well I had a little walk through the garden tonight as the barriers are now away and it is looking very nice. One concern I have though, is the fact that there is no retention of any kind for the cockleshells and I fear that they will get scattered over the paths and gradually disappear. I don't know if they intend to paint the screen behind the benches, it's a bit too industrial looking as it is.

You must have been first one in TG? The barriers were still up earlier today when I went by.

Absolutely agree with you re fencing - they will mellow a bit in colour, but the attempt to lighten it by punching patterned holes hasn't really worked, has it?

But then, thats art!!

I spoke to someone connected with the garden the other night. I can confirm that there are no plans to paint the aluminium fence. In fact, it looks much better from the inside looking out and blends quite well with the seascape.

I think the cockleshell mulch is a nice touch (though I share teddygirl's concerns) and the garden will look even better once the plants have a chance to get established. I'm disappointed though with the damage that has been done to the grass mounds.

The plans to incorporate the Coade stones and new Coade decoration are being progressed with input from PHS pupils.

What about that horrible, cheapo, wooden fence thing? Is that going?

Do you mean 'gone' as in the local youngsters removed it, or 'gone' as in Council workers have done WORK this week?!

Bob, you're talking twaddle  . We passed today and the cheapo fence is still there - are we on the same wavelength?

I noticed that too. I think Bob must have been referring to the large temporary wooden fence and not the nice wee rustic one that you are talking about.

I think so too - we'll give him the benefit of the doubt and not assume he'd OD on the Lemsip again :D
Rustic isn't quite the word I would use to describe the fence though - or nice! :D

Well done to whoever was responsible for removing the 'KEEP OFF THE GRASS' sign and replacing it with an explanation as to why we should keep off. Much more useful, much more human.

I've heard bad things about the brown acid as well.

Hello

I think there are a couple of things wrong with the park, it is all very good and nice to have a park there, and much better than it was before, but when I attended the meetings about the park before it was constructed, we were told that the plan was that people would sit on the grassy areas and have picnics. Has anyone looked at the grass? There are so many pebbles on the surface that anyone sitting to have a picnic would have a perforated backside after 5 minutes! The job was done too quickly when it was put together with not enough care and attention. The landscapers left a load of rubble over the whole surface of the park, which is still obviously there now, although disguised by grass unless you look at it properly.

Also the damned cutting grass keeps blowing into our doorway and I keep having to sweep it up. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

Still at least they didnt build a block of flats there, that is a definite bonus.

Yeah, yeah, thats all very nice and all but I bet even back then there was a moaning neighbour or two...

'Just listen to those noisy trombones... *grumble grumble* and me on the bloomin nightshift, why don't they knock that bandstand down and build something useful... *argy bargy*'

We passed the PP the other night and I have to say (as someone who wasn't that keen on the amount of money spent) the planting is starting to look fantastic. There doesn't seem to be any vandalism so far either - so fingers crossed.

had the same thoughts as you just last week, Epykat.

Unfortunately that comfy view has been rudely interrupted by someone stealing of a whole section of planting in the small hours of this morning - such a shame, too.

I can reassure you that the planting has not been stolen, but carefully removed in anticipation of the erection of the Coade stone pillars. This picture, taken this morning, shows preparatory work on the concrete foundations. Two of the pillars will sit on a concrete plinth, while the third has its own stone plinth. Work to erect the pillars should start on Monday, weather permitting, and is expected to take a week to complete.

The first section of the first pillar has now been erected but I'm now told that the whole operation could take 3 weeks to complete. Hope to get some photos or maybe video tomorrow.

The pillars are now almost complete. An information board is still to be erected, the planting will be replaced and the site tidied up. There are still options under consideration for a crown for one of the pillars and a low fence around the monuments to offer some protection. We hope to have some film of the official opening in due course, along with interviews with the key people involved in the project.

Chepale Fence

Post by Puerto bella » 22 Jul 2007, 21:41

The chespale fence along the Prom side still spoils the look of the garden - surely its not here to stay. Thought it was a temp measure to let the grass grow etc.
Have to say, despite my initial disapointment at my plans being 'Councilfied' to such a degree that I wondered why we'd spent so much time on the Planning for Real exercise etc I think the garden has turned out ok.
Can't get to grips with the confusion in materials though - too much going on. The Council must have had the bricks and the chespale left in the stores, they surely cannot have been intentional. At least the site is better than it was.

I miss a paddle!

I mind going there when I was wee and taking my eldest two there.
OK scraped knees and cut feet were always a possibility but at least there was a break from the wind, we have more of a sea breeze than you'd think
