Portobello Todddlers Hut planning application

Post by Kieran » 29 Nov 2012, 01:27

The Toddlers Hut needs your support.
We have been working for three years with a very enthusiastic group of parents and carers on a replacement building for the Toddlers Hut at the foot of Beach Lane, by the prom. The existing hut was built in the 1930s and is rotting away and no longer fit for purpose (it got the lowest possible "G" score in its environmental assessment in 2009).

We have designed a new building which has been widely consulted upon earlier this year. It has now gone into planning and needs community support in the form of letters of support. If you agree with us that this is an invaluable resource for under 5's in Porty please help us on the first step to securing the Toddlers Hut future by writing to the council to register your support for the new building. Consultation for this planning application finishes on 16th December (I think).

For anyone who doesn't know, the Toddlers Hut is a charity, a not-for-profit playgroup and social enterprise run and managed by parents & carers. It is thought to be the oldest independent childcare facility in the UK, started in 1929, with generations of Porty kids enjoying the playgroup.

This is the link to the Planning Portal where you can leave a comment online which should only take a few minutes:

you can find more images of the proposals on our website here:

We've also said similar on facebook so apologies for any cross posting but it's really important that we get as many letters of support as possible.

Thanks
Kieran Gaffney

I see that this planning application has been granted.

WTF are PAVED playing at? They are letting this school issue take their eye off the ball!!!!

FYI: "For your information, the above application has not been granted as some people would appear to believe, but is going before the Development Management Sub-Committee on the 20th February with a recommendation to grant which, as you know, is of course different."

Thank f*ck for that I thought something had been approved for a minute there

My bad if I raised anyone's hopes that it was granted - I must not have read the letter right this morning #-o

Some size of hut! Seriously, good luck, with PAVED's record, who knows.

On behalf of all the people of Portobello: We're against this sort of thing.

Keiran,

Please keep us posted on this - it'll be a great addition to the Prom. Will it be available for other uses?

Max.
