Curious discharge on Portobello Beach

Post by wangi » 12 Mar 2012, 23:03

Noticed a curious discharge (err...) on Portobello Beach today... Initially suspected somebody had dumped oil; but this mess seems to have come from under the concrete slipway?! But has also come down the slip? Something dumped in the drains, but they're broken and escaping too?

Vote for independence! It's Portobello's oil!

My vote not to independence in this case but to the massive great dane last seen heading to portobello park for a last dump!
who said that?

Wangi - can I suggest that you report this to SEPA - they should send someone out to have a look at it.

They have a pollution hotline - 0800 80 70 60 (24 hour service)

More info: http://www.sepa.org.uk/about_us/contacting_sepa.aspx

Cheers
Malcolm

Hi Malcolm, yeah I forgot to mention that I also reported this to SEPA last night, getting a quick reply that it had been sent on to the area duty pollution officer for attention.

Got this yesterday Marya
In response to your recent email, I visited PortobelloBeach yesterday and found the material which you referred to. Like you, I wasn’t entirely sure what the material was but felt it seemed to be arising from the nearby road drainage system. To that end I’ve passed details of your call (but not your personal details) to City of Edinburgh Council for urgent action as the matter falls outwith the scope of SEPA’s regulatory remit. I hope that’s to your satisfaction.

Should you wish to follow up on their progress, the reference number attached to my ‘report’ is 295097.

Many thanks for bringing the matter to SEPA’s attention.
