administrator wrote:Resurfacing works are starting on Portobello High Street. Hard copy letters are being delivered to households in streets near the works . The section from Figgate Street to Westbank Street is the part to be renewed during these six weeks of works.
Phase 1: Westbank Street to Figgate Burn
• Date: Sunday 2 October 2011 to Friday 16 October 2011
• Dayshift: 9:30am to 3:30pm
• Location: Portobello High Street between Westbank Street and Figgate Burn. This includes junctions at Westbank Street and Fishwives’ Causeway.

Portobello High Street
Traffic flow will be maintained along Portobello High Street under temporary traffic lights. Parking, loading and unloading will not be permitted during the works.

Westbank Street
Access will be maintained to and from Westbank Street under temporary traffic lights. Parking, loading and unloading will not be permitted.

Fishwives’ Causeway
In order to resurface the junction, it will be necessary to close Fishwives’ Causeway at the junction with Portobello High Street. During this closure, access to and from Baileyfield Industrial Estate will be restricted to Baileyfield Crescent at Sir Harry Lauder Road. At this location, manually controlled traffic lights and a speed restriction on Sir Harry Lauder Road will be in place to ensure safe and efficient traffic movements in and out of the industrial estate.

Kwik-Fit and Pro-Clean Car Wash
Access will be maintained to and from Kwik-Fit and Pro-Clean Car Wash.
Phase 2: Adelphi Place to Figgate Street
• Date: Sunday 16 October 2011 to Sunday 24 October 2011
• Dayshift: 9:30am to 3:30pm
• Nightshift: 7pm to 6am
• Location: Portobello High Street between Adelphi Place and Figgate Street. This includes junctions at Adelphi Grove and Figgate Street.

Phase 2 has been programmed in conjunction with the October school holidays to further limit disruption.

Portobello High Street
Due to width constraints, it will be necessary to close Portobello High Street between Adelphi Grove and Figgate Street. Parking, loading and unloading will not be permitted. A route diversion will be in place.

Figgate Street
Due to width constraints it will be necessary to close Figgate Street at the junction with Portobello High Street.

Bus Services
During Phase 2 nightshift working, there will be disruption to the bus services. Bus routes numbers 21, 49 and 69 will follow a diversion route via Brighton Place, Baileyfield Road and Sir Harry Lauder Road. Numbers 15, 15a, 42, 26 and N26 are double deck services therefore the above diversion route will not be achievable due to the low bridge on Baileyfield Road. Portobello business owners fear the worst with six week road works

The resurfacing of the main street will take one and a half months to complete.

Local business owners are incensed as "disaster" road works hit Portobello’s main thoroughfare for the next six weeks while the High Street is resurfaced.

...
However has it been bad so far, really? The work is outwith the morning and evening peaks; and during phase 2 when there will be the most disruption this will be done during the night.

Long delays at lunchtime
Even worse getting back into Porty, there's also a set of temporary traffic lights on Harry Lauder Road so it was at at standstill too.
I've not seem so much congestion around Kings Road since they undid the roundabout

I just feel sorry for the poor souls living beside the work being done during the night!
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

It has actually made it even quicker by bike as the traffic is now stationary at the Fishwives Causeway crossing on the Harry Lauder road - you do not even have to wait for the green man! 8)

Funnily enough Clanger 2 was saying something like that as we were stuck in the traffic there yesterday, I did point out it would have been difficult to take his old tv to the dump on the back of his bike.
And I really don't think my mother in law would be happy with her wheelchair tied to the back of a bike

Maureen Child wrote:Dear All

I have just had further notification from the operations manager of Lothian Buses plc, Bill Campbell. This is what will happen in the next phase of the roadworks on Portobello High Street.

"The road will be closed between Fishwives’ Causeway and Rosefield Avenue from 1900-0430 from 16-21 October and on 23rd. Because double deckers can’t get from King’s Road to Brighton Place when this closure is in place, Lothian Buses will be operating a shuttle bus on behalf of the Council. Details are shown on the attached notice which will be available on http://www.lothianbuses.com (also accessible from mobiles) and will be fitted to all affected bus stops."

I hope this is helpful to you.
