We caught up again over the weekend with Portobello girl, Pauline Symaniak, to find out where her bicycle called Shirley has taken her to now. Pauline is currently cycling around the world for Oxfam

Portobello woman cycles around globe

With no idea where her next stop will be, wandering wherever her heart takes her, Pauline Symaniak has covered more than 17,000km from her home in Portobello, Edinburgh, to Portobello, Dunedin.
The 42-year-old Scot has spent the past 17 months cycling across Europe, South America, the United States and Canada, and has spent the past month pedalling southwards from Auckland.
Although she has been travelling largely with no planned route, the one place she was adamant she wanted to go on her world tour was Portobello on the Otago Peninsula. Yesterday, she arrived.
"This was one of the places I was headed for when I left. I wanted to visit my town's namesake. I like having fun and making connections."
The biggest difference between Portobello along the coast of the Firth of Forth, and Portobello on the Otago Peninsula, was penguins, and she was very much looking forward to seeing some yesterday. "We don't have penguins in Scotland," she noted.
