Maureen Child wrote:The sand is to be returned to Portobello beach 'regrading' from west to east as part of the coastal defences work we pushed for after the storms damage of 2010 to help prevent flooding in future. The contract has been awarded to George Leslie Ltd after a competitive tender process. The expected start date is next Tuesday, 22 March.
For those who may not have seen this - work has started on the regrading
(or is that replenishment or nourishment) of the beach. The section in front on the Tower is the first to be done.

I don't think I'm ever going to get down to the water for another paddle now.

They seems to be taking sand collected on the west side of the beach along to the east in dumper trucks, doesn't half shoogle the hoose everytime they go along
The Icebreaker was out rowing past the giant sandcastles

From
Maureen Child's latest update:
Some people living nearby the beach have contacted me about their property shaking as a result of the sand-moving machines which are 're-grading' the sand from west east to re-build our coastal defences. I have made sure the Council knows about this, and measures will be taken to mitigate it. This 'earthquake' side-effect of the work was not anticipated by anyone, I'm told. Once the work is done, the sand at the east will be back to the levels they were in 1988.
