Edinburgh City Local Plan consultation

Post by Bob Jefferson » 29 Jun 2005, 07:06

This is city-wide and therefore has implications for Portobello. Consultation open until end July.

Lawrence Marshall would like the Council to retain some of the proposed housing development land at Newcraighall in order to re-locate the car showroom businesses currently at Seafield, in order to make room for a more appropriate use of the waterside.

Cities have traditonally used their waterfronts as industrial back yards. Lawrence has coined the phrase 'blue belt' to reflect the value we now place upon this amenity.

Edinburgh City Local Plan

Post by Bob Jefferson » 29 May 2006, 17:06

As you may know, a new single Edinburgh-wide Local Plan is set to replace the five separate local plans that previously covered the city. The ECLP is currently in draft form and we are now in a period of public consultation which ends on 30 June.

A copy of the plan was available to view yesterday afternoon in Portobello Library but I'm sure that, like me, many people will have had better things to do on a such a beautiful sunny day.

Thankfully, the whole thing is available to consider at your leisure online:

That 'Tram Network Extension' looks as though it may be creeping down Porty high street.

Any ideas if that's the vision?

could get a bit crowded, what with the 375 buses in each direction and all...HERE

The key's not terribly clear but it doesn't look like the tram proposals go anywhere near Portobello.

The dash red line goes thru Portobello, to Musselburgh and then to Newcraighall - on the key it's shown as tram line extension.

Ah, now I see.

I was still looking at the draft local plan map.
