Congratulations to us !

I'm delighted to report that Portobello Online won the 'Highly Commended' award (runner's up place) in the 'Community Enhancement through the Internet' section of the Calor Scottish Community of the Year 2005 Awards today. Anyone who wants to buy Bob or XXXX (aka Paul) a celebratory drink can find them in 'Forester's Bar' :D

Portobello Community Council also won 'Commended' certificates in two other categories; Old People and Community Life.

A proud day for all of us indeed! :wav:

We used to have Gala Days Sandra with done up lorries but I can't ever remember the sun shining! In fact I can clearly remember one about 10 years ago when it absolutely chucked it down and the two floats practically sailed along the High Street. It sort of just fizzled out after that.

Thanks everyone. I vaguely recall a meeting I held in the library 6, 7 years ago? I remember saying that I wanted to not only build a community website, but to build an award-winning one. If I had known then how long that was going to take, I probably wouldn't have bothered - but we got there in the end.

I'm personally delighted and I'm delighted for everyone who has contributed to the project both past and present. There are way too many names to list here, but you know who you are.

That list includes all of you, and its not just me that values your contribution. Check what Dr Douglas Cruickshank, course leader in e-Business at The Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen has to say about you.

Congratulations also to Lochwinnoch who pipped us at the post with a website that sets new standards in this keenly contested competition. A few ideas there for us to rip off in time for next year!

We had a great time, we drank far too much and, with your help, we'll be back next year.

Interestingly enough he comments that
the site is largely produced by volunteers
Right! Own up now. Who's getting paid?

The mini youth forum is hilarious. I now have the goss on a few of the Lochwinnoch teachers.
The grown-up forum however doesn't have a profanity filter. They can say arse and shit and everything. And they bicker and squabble sometimes. Unbelievable!
Maybe we shouldn't have a link to this den of iniquity here in genteel Portobello Online?

But we were the victors, apparently:

Portobello is top web port

All I can say is that it was very noisy in the EICC and something obviously got lost in translation during my mobile phone conversation with EN's Jane Bradley.

Nothing to do with the noise - more likely the way you were <trying> to form your words into coherent speech

Congratulations from the Portobello Reporter group to all who work so effectively on the Porty website - We are pleased to be a part of it.

Congratulations also - though no surprise - to the Portobello community itself. The Community Life section of the CC's submission won a special mention in 1999, when we won the title, and again this time round.

Not really. There was the champagne reception of course, and the wine with the meal but other than that we didn't touch a drop.
