I was amazed when I visited the The Old Pier, 62-65 Bath Street about the amount of entertainment that was on or doorstep. Organised by POD, (Portobello Open Door) a number of acts from the The Edinburgh Festival, along with some local artists are appearing in Portobello. The mix ranges from poetry to music.
The Old Pier is hosting lunch time (12 noon) and tea time (4.30 p.m.) theatre throughout this week and they have a special Cabaret of Music, Comedy etc etc from 8 p.m. every night. What's more the prices are cheaper than up town!!! So get there early.
In addition they are advertising workshops for young people between 10 a.m. and 12 noon - Don't know what this is like as I am no longer a young person???
Also on Saturday there will be a feast of street entertainers and music on the Promanade from 10a.m. - Lets hope the good weather lasts!!
Further details of the events for the remainder of the week can be found http://www.the-pod.org/index.php

I think it's fantastic that Sheila and her merry cohorts have managed to put this programme together at such short notice and I'm particularly impressed that by and large it all seems to have been organised by local people.
It's been noted before that Portobello seems to have more than its fair share of artistic people and they are certainly an integral part of our diverse and vibrant community and a big factor in making Porty such a desirable place to live nowadays.
Would love to hear from anyone who has been to the performances and we are happy to pubish photographs.
Best wishes and congratulations to everyone at POD from the Portobello Online team.
