The November Big Read

Post by rathbone » 27 Oct 2004, 11:46

By overwhelming support the November choice is:

THE DA VINCI CODE by Dan Brown
ISBN 0 552 14951 9

A tale of arcane shennanigans in the corridors of the Louvre. (Has anyone every counted the number of panes of glass in the pyramid?)

If you haven't already read it, have a go.
If you have read it, let us know.

Either way, post your views on this thread
I have nothing to say and I'm going to say it.

If anyone is thinking of buying the book then ASDA looks a good bet as they are only charging £3.73

Oh the prices you can get away with when you are part of a massive global organisation that treats its employees like scum.

Good choice Rathbone (one I was wanting to read too) :D

Is there a timescale for views on the book?

Only that this thread will finish on 30 November and we'll move on to A Christmas Carol complete with animated avatar and/or a visit to the Dome.

One I've wanted to read too, so I'll give it a go! Thanks for the ASDA tip!

Hey - I LIKE 'A Christmas Carol'! (OK - I'm a sentimental Victorian throwback!)

Bought my copy from Asda yesterday.
Actually, I am having to go back to Asda again tonight. I've been charged over £3 for 1 red pepper. Not even Sainsbury's are that expensive!

I had started to read a borrowed paperback copy of this but coincidentally my wife had ordered for herself the special illustrated collector's edition, which arrived this morning. It was a bargain, allegedly. It's not the type of thing I would normally read but I'm at Chapter 14 and enjoying it very much.

Sandra - yes enjoying it a lot.
I do read rather fast, hence I never identify the murderers in the crime books, I get too caught up in the story.

If anyone can explain PHI in plain English, I'd be grateful - I wasn't good at "sums" in school. :?

Rather than attempt one of my pathetic explanations here you will find a myriad of web sites via Google you can browse through depending on how lightly or heavily you want to read up on it.
If you stick 'PHI number' into Google you will find some that are helpful.
Happy hunting :)

It was actually the fibonacci theory - got my words wrong too but OK on it now. Probably shouldn't say too much more for those who haven't started the book (eh Sandra?).

Its a race between the third magnoliette and the end of the book just now.

Every time mrs m collapses in an exhausted heap I whiz through another chapter or two. (I'll stay quiet about whether thats a good thing or not for now)

Actually the race isnt quite as frantic as I perhaps made it sound there; we're not yet having to read through the steam from boiling kettles!

Wow, Mr M - how exciting!
Give her my love and best wishes for an "easy" time. (As in, as easy as possible...)

How are you enjoying it so far Sandra? I've just got a couple more pages to go, though I don't intend to rush out and buy another of his books when I finish this one. I'd better say no more at this stage :-#
