National grid
National grid
Hello everyone,
We are looking to buy a house in Porty - it has lots of lovely Georgian and Victorian properties and we love the sea! It is quite unfortunate that much of the conservation area is under / close to the national grid. Has there ever been a campaign to get the overhead powerlines buried?

Re: National grid
The power lines run from cockenzie power station, which is closing in March next year as it's not upto existing environmental standards.Once that happens, sometime next eyar, the power cables that run behind Argyle Crescent/WBC will be removed.
Re: National grid
Really? Isn't the plan to replace Cockenzie on the same site with a gas power station?

Re: National grid
Ah, didn't know that, but it doesn't make reference to any definite plans in my defencewangi wrote:Really? Isn't the plan to replace Cockenzie on the same site with a gas power station?

Re: National grid
So does that mean that currently (see what I did there) there is no power running through those plyons along SHL road etc.?
Re: National grid
This is entirely false and unfounded speculation, based on a complete lack of knowledge of the Electrical Transmission systemFranck wrote:The power lines run from cockenzie power station, which is closing in March next year as it's not upto existing environmental standards.Once that happens, sometime next eyar, the power cables that run behind Argyle Crescent/WBC will be removed.
There was for a short time last week due to a fault, no power running through those lines, and it made the news
Re: National grid
As Residents of Portobello, shouldn't we be against this sort of thing?
Re: National grid
So there is power and will be for the foreseeable future ceejam?
Re: National grid
The East side of Edinburgh would be a bit dark without it
Re: National grid
