Tap Water

Anyone else found their tap water is a distinctly yellow colour? This has been going on for the last week or so, indeed leaving a stain on the bathroom sink.

I thought it was but wasn't sure if i was imagining it, even though the sink needs cleaning much more right now. Thanks for the reassurance that i'm not seeing colours that aren't there!

Thought it was because of the recent events with my bee, ay, double ell, hyphen, see, oh, see, kay, and the cold water supply, or because I'd moved into a new place. Obviousy not.

I phoned East of Scotland Water and they told me the problem goes as far as Musselburgh and Leith. The water is safe and it's a result of the heavy rain flooding and at the resevoirs.

I was blaming my daughter for putting too much yellow conditioner on in the shower and leaving scum round the bath!! Oops. Do I REALLY have to apologise?

That wasn't my fault. Whenever someone uses the word scum in a post the electronic profanity police converts it to "Hibs fans". That way no one is really offended but everyone knows what you mean.

Just ran a bath and the water looks quite brown now, never mind yellow. I've tried to disguise it with bubble bath but it's not working.

I was interested to check how long we had been enduring the yellow water problem. Can't believe that heavy downpours last Summer are still affecting our water supply....

Thanks for reminding me to 'phone ecm. Just did so now

Looks like a few other folk 'phoned today too. Chap said that he had several calls today so the problem must have suddenly got worse!

Explanation is that it is still the same problem

but that they are working on it and that in about 3 weeks time or so it should be back to normal. He stressed that it was safe, just 'yellow'!

What's the betting then that we'll all be 'phoning up again in a month's time?

I hadn't noticed it being any worse than it has been over the last few months. It's just so off-putting, isn't it?

I wonder what it is that's going to happen/be done in the next 3 weeks to get the water clearer?
Perhaps it's better not to know.

Wish I'd known about this thread a lot sooner. I thought it was just a problem I had and I used to let my water run for ages to try and get it to run clear. I had visions of all sorts of nasties lurking in my pipes.
Just as well we don't have water metres here

It hasn't got any worse (or better) as far as I was aware either ecm . Maybe a few other folk decided to phone for themselves prompted by my revival of this thread?
When I run a bath the water looks really revolting (reminds me of the old line 'don't eat the yellow snow') unless you put in gallons of bubble bath to disguise the colour and yellow staining grows round the shower water outlet

The problem is at the treatment plant and a result of last Aug/Sept. downpours (some sort of algae problem). He didn't tell me what 'extra' treatment they could be possibly doing, but he was adamant that it will soon be a thing of the past.

I've got a water filter fitted to my kitchen tap which I'm glad about. The previous owners of the property had installed it so maybe this isn't the first time there has been concern about water quality in Porty

Yeah, it's more of a pale brown colour here. Thank God for Tesco's own brand bubble bath - huge bottle for 79p!

I don't drink nearly as much water as I should and, with the way the water is right now, I've no intention of doing anything about that.

The problem today seems to be a lack of water

Don't know how wide-spread the problem is , but the pressure in our mains water is really poor. Scottish Water tell me they are "investigating" and that calls have been coming in since 7.40 a.m.

I logged a call on their help-line at 9 o'clock last night. Water pressure early this morning (6am) was fine, but had dwindled to a trickle by the time I left the house at 7:30.
