Promenaders: You are being watched

Post by wangi » 10 Jul 2010, 12:47

Image

Two of these have appeared in the last few weeks on the Prom. One is at the bottom of Brunstane Rd, and the other half way along Esplanade Terrace...

I'm assuming it's CCTV - but they do not appear on the council map of CCTV locations; nor is there any signage to inform CCTV surveillance is being carried out.

I *think* I remember noticing a CCTV sign somewhere around the bowls centre last week and wondering where the cameras might be.

Nope, I'm clearly delusional. I had a look on my way home last night and saw no signs this time. I must have imagined it.

I wonder if there's a connection between the cameras and the "crackdown" on drinking and antisocialbehaviour as reported by the bbc website

I spotted the Joppa camera while out loitering last night. Presumably they get a really good view into everyone's houses along the Terrace.

I've received word that they are operated by the council, but are only activated "on demand".

No reason yet for the lack of signs and information...
