Codex Alimentarius (vitamins by prescription only?)

Post by alip » 27 Aug 2009, 14:29

Hi folks, this might be of interest to anyone who currently takes a vitamin supplement or uses other herbal remedies. It arrived from a friend who asked me to pass it along;

"Hey friends, this needs to be signed by 5th Sept if you decide to do it.... who knows how much leverage a parliamentary petition has.... I felt I had to make my objection known to this, irrespective of whether it changes policy....

Subject: Fw: IMPORTANT Petition against Codex Alimentarius (it just means Food Code - the Latin name is just meant to confuse us or think its not to do with us, but it will affect everyone)

I know some of you will be familiar with this, for others you may not be aware of what parliament is about to do in your name. Codex Alimentairus is a law designed to hand over the control of natural remedies to the pharmaceutical giants. One more attempt to regulate us - with potentially dire consequences. Unless we take this last opportunity and act now we will not be able to buy vitamins or health/nutritional supplements without a doctor's prescription - they will be banned from 31st 20December 2009.

The principle of self medication with herbal/vitamin/mineral food supplements would be restricted to 'prescription only' status, if the Codex Alimentarius is applied in this country.

Since the NHS priorities are ill health diagnosis and treatment, the good health preservation that supplements provide will be inaccessible to the majority of our population and the cost to the NHS will increase, and the health of the population will decline.

You may think this can't happen, you may think why haven't I heard about this before. The reason is that there are vested interests, giant multinational pharmaceutical companies, and its not in their interest that you know about and oppose this. They and our lawmakers in Europe are banking on public apathy. Despite considerable pressure already exerted our government is still planning to implement this law - UNLESS THERE IS MASSIVE OPPOSITION IT WILL GO AHEAD.

Like many health and safety matters this was started with good intentions, in 1962 by the United Nations, to establish international free trade foods but has become a major threat to our civil liberties and freedom of choice.
As the song says : YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'VE GOT TILL ITS GONE

Please, sign the petition to the Prime Minister . . It takes 10 seconds! This is for our health, and well-being and the health and well-being of our children. Please click on this link below.....

for more information google o pposition to codex alimentarius or look on facebook and you'll see that the threat is very real and opposition is from people from all walks of life, in many countires."

Hope that doesn't break any TalkPorty posting rules,

AliP

I don't think it's against any posting rules.

Absolute nonsense is allowed.

The Codex Alimentarius Commission was set up the 1960's. I cannot accept it was designed just to give the big boys control of natural remedies. It would be the best example of long term planning ever! 8)

It's just an internationally recognised set of guidelines for labelling. Dietary supplements are due to come under it so will require certain information to be clearly displayed.

The idea you'll need a prescription for a vitamin tablet is just twaddle.

Why do people keep forwarding these emails??

Anyway, it's been doing the rounds in the States for a while as shown on Snopes:

and has obviously been adapted for the UK now.
