I was wondering if anyone knew what 19 morton street is?
It's the newish building at the Joppa end of Porty, I guess the original tenement subsided and the new build was put up (i'm thinking by the council who would have got the land for free after the subsidence I guess).
Anyway the reason I ask, is that we live nearby and it seems every day the tenants in the top floor are playing loud music way into the night (stopping us getting to sleep). As well as having drunks visiting them and shouting up at them to be let in. It seems like it is just a drinking den now.
The music and shouting often starts again at 7 in the morning.
The Tenant have only been there for a couple of months, but I believe they sell the big issue at waverly station. I also believe that they get up go there to make some money, then use it to buy alcohol and just drink all day. Making a lot of noise (because of the flat's elevation the noise carries throughout the surrounding area).
There has also been a number of times when ambulances have been called for other residents who have collapsed drunk, and there are often police cars parked outside.
I'm assuming it's council owned or housing association, but I can't find a record of it anywhere, nor can I find a record of any of the flats ever having been sold.
I kind of feel that this is unacceptable, the local residents work hard to live in a nice area to bring up their families and they pay their taxes. Yet the council (or whoever) just gives the property to folk who have no respect for their neighbours.
The location of these flats is excellent and I'm in favour of helping out those that need it, but surely if you give these nice apartments to anyone, then what incentive do they have to actually earn it. They will just continue taking advantage of society.
Anyway, I'm just trying to find out who to contact to mention what is going on, anyone know what this building is?

You can contact:
Anti-Social Domestic Noise (Fettes) - 0131 311 3131 which operates 24 hours a day apparently or the Council Noise Service on 0131 529 3030. I'm sure they'll point you in the right direction.
I wouldn't bother trying to find out who the landlord is. It just causes you a load of hassle trying to find out and they invariably do nothing about it. Just keep phoning every time you're disturbed and hopefully something will be done about it. I totally agree with you re the letting of flats. One bad neighbour in a stair is all it takes to make everybody's life a misery. I remember when the new ones were built on the old Annexe playground at Stanley Street. They cost about £100,000 but the ones that didn't sell to private owners went to Housing Association and subsequently let to junkies. So, as you say, the people who had worked hard to buy a nice flat in a nice area then had jakies as neighbours!
