Bargains!

Post by Bob Jefferson » 26 Dec 2008, 11:12

Anyone out bargain hunting today? I can't be bothered with traditional shop sales but online shopping is fun.

A few weeks ago I picked up what I reckon was the bargain of the year - the first gen 16 gb iPod Touch for £140 at Argos, a saving of £120. I've had great fun with it ever since.

Dixons had a 3 hour 10% off online sale yesterday. I bought a 32 inch Samsung LCD, complete with stand for £300.

What has been your best bargain buy?

Yeah, well it was too good to miss. I also picked up an England football shirt and shorts at a bargain price, emblazoned with 'Jefferson' on the back and the number 50. I reckon it might add another 5% to my performance.

Otherwise, we have spent a lot of time playing with Emily's Abba SingStar and I can tell you it is getting very competitive.

Anyone else use www.hotukdeals.com ? I've picked up quite a few bargains since I discovered it, the latest being a Blu-Ray player. I've wanted one for a while but I've been waiting for the prices to come down. The LG BD 300 is well-reviewed and is now reduced to £99:99 at Argos. And you can currently get free delivery by entering the promo code EFD.

The Haddows in Porty High St closes tomorrow, which is bad news for the staff who have lost their jobs at Xmas. There's just about nothing left on the shelves but my wife managed to pick up a couple of bargains earlier today. I can report that the 10 year old single malt Glengoyne is very light, smooth and delicious, while I am intrigued by (though yet to sample) the madeira-finished Penderyn. Not only is it 46 percent proof but it is Welsh! Both bottles were half price. In theory, anything left is selling at 90% off tomorrow.

Must be good news at least for the Fine Wine Company to have one less competitor.

We also picked up 10 cigars for £1 and 10 boxes of matches for 10p!

How about 6 nights in a family room in a Madrid hotel during the October school holidays for less than £150? OK, it's a Travelodge but reasonably central and well reviewed. Add on cheap direct flights from Edinburgh with Easyjet and it's another bargain holiday! Our seventh and definitely last holiday for 2010.

With apologies to our bank manager.
