It doesn't seem to be getting much publicity on here so thought I would give it a plug.
I have been for lunch twice in the last week and very nice it was too.
The decor is lovely and fresh, nice atmosphere and yummy panini
I hope it does well as Portobello has been desperately needing somewhere like this.

There's been a few posts about it on the
sailing club thread, over on the Matters board TG.
I agree that it is a nice place to eat. With the cafe on one side and the Espy on the other, Bath Street is on the up.

Yes I'm a fan of Espy too but I find their portions a bit on the large side for lunch time.
I was there on Friday night and the food was good as usual but the live music spoilt the evening a bit. The music was good, some of my favourites were performed but it was just too loud. I was on a girls night out and struggled to hear the person sitting next to me never mind those further down the table. Not what you want when the banter is flowing.

Decent coffee, scones, croissants etc and I was impressed that you can get a carton of OJ for the kids for 50p - sometimes i'll go into a cafe and get stung for £1 - £1.50 for a wee juice for each wain, then its grub on top and your coming out after having forked out £20 for a cup of coffee and a scone!
Hamlet had Yorick's skull.
I have a Lava Lamp.

Excellent review. Agree about the ice cream though. Why stock a run of the mill product you can buy in any supermarket when Luca's is just up the road?

One of the first cafés to be nominated is the Beach House Café in Portobello, Edinburgh, which offers many homemade delights to tickle your sweet tooth.
Jonathan Bendit, owner, said: “We are delighted to find out that we have been nominated. We did not have a clue.
...
“We want to find out about these great businesses and share them with other visitors to Scotland.
“Whether you had great service, exceptional food or were just blown away by a cafés amazing location, we want to hear from you.”

Now stocking Luca's ice cream. Isn't it nice when businesses respond to customers' ideas? Oh, and the rowan tree is on order, so now everyone is happy.
And to celebrate, let's have a caption competition. What is being discussed between Scotland’s Tourism Minister, Jim Mather MSP and Beach House cafe owner Johanthan Bendit that is so funny?

Review on Capital Critiques:
http://capitalcritiques.wordpress.com/2 ... eachhouse/
AFTER a string of positive reviews, unfortunately here’s a negative one. I’ve only been to the Beach House café once, and it was a little while ago, so the details are a bit sketchy I’m afraid.
The GF and I popped into the café for lunch following a walk on Porty prom. It was busy, as it often is, but we found a table inside and perused the menu. We were taken aback by the prices (although we didn’t balk at them) and ordered the soup of the day and tuna mayo sandwiches, plus a pot of tea.
At that point I noticed there was a bit of fluff in the milk jug, so I asked the bloke serving us if we could get another one. He looked at me like I’d just pissed on his shoe, before telling me there was already milk on the table. I explained that there was a bit of fluff in the milk that was making me boak (I didn’t mention the boak part) and that I’d quite like the aforementioned milk replaced. He then looked at me like I’d just pissed on his shoe, up his leg, past his nipples and all over his face.
Bad start.
