Fund raising ceilidh for Water Aid

Post by cornerboy » 06 Oct 2008, 18:14

Bella McNab's Band (the ceilidh band with strong Porty connections) is running a fund-raising ceilidh on October 18, at St James's Hall in Rosefield Place, for the charity Water Aid. The ceilidh is part of The Big National Ceilidh, which will be running simultaneously in cities, towns and villages throughout the UK - at 10pm all the bands plan to be playing the same tune, Jamie Allen, for the same dance, the Circassian Circle.

Tickets are £7, £5 concession, £2 for children 5-16. Under 5s are free. There won't be a bar, but you're very welcome to bring your own refreshments. (It would be great if you could take away the containers and recycle them after too.) Tickets will be available at the door, or can be booked in advance either by phoning Bella at 0131 669 8824, or emailing info@bellamcnab.com

Water Aid is a charity that addresses questions of poverty by enabling the world's poorest people to gain access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education.

The Bella McNab Band are great. Would have been good to see Aqua, The Waterboys or even the Beach Boys put in an appearance for this worthy cause

We'll give the Splashing White Sergeant a go, and there might be some tap dancing...

Thought folk might be interested in this from the Big National Ceilidh newsletter:

'As well as covering the UK, we now have three dances happening the USA – in Vermont which will be timed to coincide with UK time, and both Tacoma, Washington State and Buffalo, New York, who will be dancing in their own time-zones. There’s a 13-hour open-air event at the University of Abuja in Nigeria, and somewhere on a train in mountainous Tibet, a traveller from the UK will get passengers dancing the Circassian Circle to an MP3 recording of Jamie Allen'
