Mini-Charlie #1 will go to school next year. We've heard good things about both St Johns & Towerbank ... and also a few bad things too. I've got no idea what to look for in a school or how to choose between them.
Any suggestions on how we should decide? Are inspection reports any good (and are they on line)? Should league tables be trusted? Should I flip a coin? Am I asking too many questions?
Thanks in advance.

This link might be of some use Charlie if you are looking for statistics, inspection reports etc.

Every child is individual and what suits one may not suit another. My son went to St John's and loved it. He left with grades in English and Maths well above those expected for his chronological age, but the building is in need of upgrading and, if the money ever comes through , pupils would face a decant. This may be something to bear in mind.

Thanks Marya - useful link.
Can understand the reluctance to post negative comments - looks like this topic has had lots of views but not many responses. But would be great to know how others decide between schools.
Have school visits/tours been helpful? How important have personal recommendations been? Or do most people not choose, opting to take the nearest school?
Maybe it's fear of the unknown that's prompting so many questions, but I'm honestly interested in peoples views. Feel free to PM/email with comments or opinions - even if the advice is to flip a coin and get on with it!
Cheers
