Pyramids 2008

Post by Poppy » 12 Jul 2008, 11:27

When I first saw mounds of sand along the beach, I thought they were adding sand in a very minor way, but I've now realised (and Teddygirl confirmed this yesterday) that the men who maintain the beach have been creating them "because the kids loved the pyramids so much last year". I think that's really sweet of them! And certainly the pits and mounds they've made are being well used.

They topped up the one near us yesterday and the children were swarming all over it as soon as the tractor moved off.
They're certainly well used.
Like you I first thought it was some way is dispersing sand but our neighbour was talking to one of the drivers and said they were doing it for the kids.
Nice.
:D

We'll need to plant some dune-grass to make it look more authentic! And then supply plasters for when wee fingers get cut on it!!! :P

Memo to self - next time you at a beach with dunes, try and see if you can still make a high-pitched whistling noise using a wee bit of grass between the thumbs...

That's so great of those guys.

Shows the lasting impact that art can have - and provides loads of fun at the same time.

But I'll play safe and leave the maram grass alone - as you say, it whips the fingers off you. Using ordinary grass makes a great whistle as well.

The sign that worries me most is the one at Seafield, which warns 'Slow People Recycling "

There's a tractor on the beach at the moment.
He seems to be flattening the pyramids :(

Is it the same along your end Poppy?

Seems a shame. I've seen so many folk having fun on them in the last week.

Anyone any ideas why they're going?

Yup, all along the Prom they've been flattened.

Thats kind of sad.
There were so many kids and even adults playing on them
