A slice of life from Portobello High Street:
A customer walks into Williamson's and asks Mr Bonthron, the owner, what is fresh. Mr Bonthron, clearly not entirely happy with the implication that some of his fish may be anything other than fresh, explains that they don't have a freezer and that everything is fresh.
"In fact" he quips, "this fish is so fresh, it doesn't know it's dead yet."
The customer then ordered two fillets of dressed haddock and asked for cooking instructions.
